I found yamaha hs 50 series....are they good studio monitor?

please suggest me any other models or brands

Thanks :cool2:

Budget? 30K, 50K, 1L or 3L? Or more?

I'd stay away from Yamaha. Their monitors are way too bright, and they will result in dull mixes (assuming that's what you're buying them for)

I have yamaha hs-50m. But they are useless without hs-10m. They sound flat and better than my mx-5021. I dont recommend yamaha unless you have a good mixer.

Oh but i found so many reviews saying that they are almost close to NS10M studio monitors

(analytical type)

guys can u suggest any other studio monitors? or can i buy HS 50 ?

I found in kochi these speakers cost 20k

i can extend my budget ...I really like to buy studio monitors for building a home studio setup....plz help

~30K the Behringer Truth 2030A are pretty decent, @50K the Dynaudio BM5A are the way to go, @1L you can probably squeeze in the Adam A6 or a pair of Genelec 8040. Genelec also has some ~40K models, they may be worth a look though though they need subwoofer assistance.

NS10M were *not* flat - they had a super-bright top end, too hot by about 3dB. that brought out a lot of top-end detail so one could correct sibilants, but the NS10M were far from being good monitors to mix on. They were popular, no doubt, but in a small section of budget studios - the big guys were using Genelecs

In truth monitors are less about overall frequency response, and more about how comfortable you are listening to them for long periods of time at reasonable volumes (75dB+). If you monitor at low levels your mixes will turn out bass-heavy and bright, so it's important to keep levels high enough to mix right. But that's just me, your mixes could turn out very different.

I wouldn't recommend it. You don't know what they've been through, they'll usually have a lot of miles on them, and may be repaired/refurbished by local repairmen.

Having said that, I had seen a pair in Shalu Music Mumbai going for about 30K. Seriously not worth it, a pair of Genelecs would not require much of a step up in terms of money, but would be light years ahead of the NS10s.

Yes, that's right. It's basically running off hype created twenty years ago - the same reason why some poor sods are still palmed off outdated PC hardware.

The NS10 are passive nearfield monitors. A separate amplifier is required.
