The Arctic Silver 5 TIM is a good option but depending on your budget and experience with re-seating the heat-sink components of your laptop / PC I would suggest that you avoid the same as it is conductive in nature; hence in the situation that you spill it OR it spreads onto the circuitry of the system there are ripe chances of short circuits and permanent damage to your laptop.

I would suggest that you look at options like --
TuniQ TX-2 ~350/- for a 5gm tube, non-conductive and very easy to spread on the surface, no cure-in period unlike the Arctic Silver 5 [which needs ~200 hours before it starts performing to its best]
Cooler Master Thermal Fusion ~600/- for a 5gm tube, almost same as above except that it has a more viscous nature so a chore to spread.
SVG Tech Thermag V1 ~150/- per 1gm tube, this is OEM Shin-Etsu paste retailed by SVG Tech [an Indian start-up] and the reviews speak for themselves.

To buy the SVG Tech thermal paste, look into this thread -- http://www.techenclave.com/svg-tech/entire-svg-tech-cooling-lineup-133823/#post1668343.

For a more comprehensive shootout of multiple thermal pastes and ways to apply them, here are a few articles / reviews -- Guide - How TIM Works & How To Apply It Correctly | bit-tech.net / Thermal Paste and How To Use It / 80-way Thermal Interface Material Performance Test | Thermal Interface Material,Thermal Paste,Heatsink Compound,80-Way Thermal Interface Material Best Thermal Paste Heatsink Compound Cooling Performance Comparison Benchmark Tests.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!!

P.S. -- in Hyderabad the best place for computers and associated paraphernalia is Chenoy Trade Center, Secunderabad. I recommend that you check out Bhumika Peripherals [in Basement] and Sweta Peripherals.

Hi,
And thanks a lot alpha17 for the help...I didn't knew about the svg tech's thermag v1,, It seems very good product with thermal conductivity of 6,, a lot better than ,, cooler master and acrtic siver 5 which says >3.5
I have one question to ask though.. yesterday, i bought cooler master IC Essential E2 from secunderabad... I was supposed to be a good paste according to specs,, but its highly viscous,, and a very difficult to spread,.. after appling it,, i still get a resting temp of 56 degrees which is same as before.. did i applied the paste too thick or what kindly help me with this..

A few pictures will be helpful and it is recommended for highly viscous thermal pastes that you try to spread it using the brute-force-pressure method instead of trying to spread it with the credit-card applicator method.

Which cooler are you using, is it the stock heat-sink and fan combo provided by Intel OR some alternative third-party solution.

What are you ambient temperatures in Hyderabad and how is the airflow arrayed in your cabinet. This plays a role how fast a heat-sink can efficiently rotate the waste heat of its surface into the air around it so that it can absorb more heat from the processor; the less efficient this process, the more dead heat is accumulated on the heat-sink and is not being rotated thus causing inefficient heat transfer.

Finally a dusty OR dirty interior is a major culprit when it comes to trapping heat inside a cabinet. This also feeds the vicious inefficiency cycle, less heat gets dumped out more is retained and temperatures keep heading North.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!!

P.S. -- please post the pictures at your discretion no hurry.

Im very sorry to fogot to mention that im using dell xps 15 L502x laptop..
And these days hyderabad has temps around 27 degrees..
Its stock laptop heat sink..
Earlier when i bought this laptop.. The temps were around 48 degrees c..
I think earlier i was using the dell customized original windows 7..
But since a few days.. Im using original windows 7 but installed from windows 7 cd
Can it be the problem from fans drivers or the bios defect..
The problem started after the changing of motherboard ..i got fan and heat sink also replaced coz of heat.... As when the laptop is in idle state the fan runs very slowly..
But when any apps are running the fan runs fast and the gpu temps are lower when any normal low load app is running than idle state..
Are there any tweeks for windows which allow the fan to run faster until the temps reaches 48 degrees c..

There is a software called SpeedFan exclusively for the same purpose. It is a free software [not sure if its Open source].

You can download it from here --> SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer.

Whether you are using a laptop OR a PC it will be much easier for me to glean the mistake that you might have made whilst applying TIM. Whether it is too thick OR to thin, unevenly spread.

Hope this helps, Cheerio!!
