Best tool for LAN sharing and chat

Hello,

Can anyone please share what is the best Lan based tool which can be used to Chat and share files...

Gmail and yahoo work good but need users to be registered....same with Facebook....( everyone is on FB now...but still cant share files there and its nt a good for LAN)
what we need is simple desktop application (or web) for a residential society and a small office which shares internet and can host Meeting etc on LAN.

Any suggestions pleasE??

Can you check out DC++

DC++ your files, your way, no limits

People normally use this mainly for file sharing. Chat is also an option. May suit your requirement.

Though I use it occasionally and found very it interesting, don't know exactly how it works, especially in creating a new HUB.

Netmeeting, since you are in LAN ?

been using IPmessenger in lan(college). works fine if all are connected onto a single switch(lan).
^^ +1 for IPmessenger.

A very simple tool to use.. (Average interface)

Dont even need to install it, just click on it and it just runs..

+1 to IP Messenger its the simplest, cleanest and easiest one to use. Works on PC, MAC, Android and IPhone. Have all that stuff running the IP Messenger and works fine.

Outlook Lan Messenger is another one to look for if you can go for a paid one.

thanks for the responses guys......

Have been using Ip messenger....It is the simplest......but comes without any bells and whistles.. However I need to give importance to user intuitiveness as well, since its gonna be used by not all tech friendly people and hence point and click interface(sorry ..but they do lag behind.)

Im gonna try to use the other ones suggested and will post after some experience.
