well, such questions and purchases r bound to happen in our conditions.. i wanna buy a UPS asap. i have got a 17'' non LCD (wat its called technically?:( ) monitor.. soon i am upgrading to opteron and will OC as well.. i run a firewire bus powered sound card and preamp.. in nut shell, i need a powerfull UPS for instant backup..

so wat specs n which company is good? a back up of half and hour is good, and i don't wanna spend over 2.5k...

thnx

Yea you would have to ur your budget significantly. A good UPS + an extra battery(+charger for the battery i think) will cost in excess of 5k at least.

but then which company is good, if i wanna buy for 5k..

if i just want to shut down my pc , with all that config with some cheap UPS, which one should be that?.. see i have my pc on inverter.. but due to fluctuations n power cuts, it restarts.. so for that flicker of sec, i need a ups.. forget half an hour thing.. i expected a lot within 2.5k..

A high quality UPS means APC and nothing else. You'll get an 800VA Backups for around 4700 or so. A better 750VA Smartups will set you back by around 7800-7900. The latter is what I use and with my X1900XTX at full tilt, I get around 15mins of backup time.

get a 1kva microtek ups for 3k thats the best for 3k

^^Most unreliable :P. You never know whether the ups will work or the machine will reboot... Its the same with microteks and proviews and all that crap.

A word of caution - your UPS might not run on the inverter - i tried it with atleast 3 different UPS brands (APC , Stellar and one more...) and 2 different inverter combinations but the UPS still goes to battery mode even if the inverter is supplying it power - i guess it is due to slightly different voltages that the inverter provides (as compared to mains)

If u want ur ups to work on inverter - u might have to get the acceptable voltage levels on ur UPS adjusted from a service man/service center although it is a simple procedure...

It is better to go for APC - they come with a utility to adjust the voltage levels through software...and are far more reliable than any other local brand !

If you just want it not to restart then even an APC 500VA UPS will do i guess. Thats for 1.8k

That might not be a good idea as 500VA = 300W !!! :|

Have a look at ur power supply requirements to see if that is enough for ur system !!!
Go for atleast 650 VA
