Hi , I use FFDshow video decoder .. It will be great if somebody posted best video quality settings guide but since such thing doesnt exist upto now ,so I'm posting it here .. I tried using de-interlacing(default:ffgmpeg) and seriously , the video looks like non-AA and non-AF :P(I hope you understand) .. the visible edges I saw yesterday with 50 Cent video were alot more than the usual xvid/divx movies I play , so I removed it and its fine now .. I know something is missing alright :P(yea I'm a newb on this) .. Can somebody tell me the best video quality settings ? including the type of de-interlacing setting ?

Thanks!

leaving it at default is best.

at the most, try postprocessing(even that for only poorly encoded/low bitrate videos)

the rest of the settings are for correction , not enhancemts,, you need to enable de interlacer only if you see comb like horizontal artefacts. otherwise, you're actually reducing image quality

ah , what about enhancements ? Is there any regarding that ?

Switch , can you post about your monitor' settings?(sharpness, coarse(all in the same page) etc.)? if you are using SS 740N ?

You're using your PC monitor? The only things you might need are deinterlace, denoise, resize and sharpen. About the best settings, they vary depending on your taste. But ffdshow has a split screen feature, in which half the screen is processed and half isn't. Thus you get a clear idea of before and after shots.
For resize, most experts suggest 2X rather than an fixed resolution, as this seems to use less preocessing. Use Lancos at 2. (you can also try Lancos4).
For sharpen, try unsharpen mask.

uhh stay away from ffdshow's post processing. most of the time it ends up making videos look a lot worse than they are.

the first thing you need to understand is what de-interlacing is for. most of the videos that you see on the computer including downloaded ones are not interlaced and therefore, do not require de-interlacing. in the case of your 50Cent video.. it was probably not interlaced so turning de-interlacing on may have had negative effects.

almost all DVDs however, are interlaced as they've been produced for television and not for computer viewing. in this case, you can try turning de-interlacing on but in my experience, you'd be better off using something else like VLC or PowerDVD for DVD playback as the de-interlacing seems much better than ffdshow's.

as far as ffdshow and watching vids on MPC/WMP goes.. leave the stuff on default but be sure to uncheck the post processing box like i said. it's not really needed if you're watching videos that have been encoded well anyway.

hope this helped.
