Beginner
Hi

Planning to build BF3 compatible machine in this week , my current rig is useless for high end games like BF3 So decided just to keep monitor(Dell s2209w) from old setup and build new CPU.
initially the budget in my mind was 50k but wanted to see power of dual GPU so taking chances and stretched it to 65k to 70k.

please advise / correct my list .

Questions

1. Q: What is your budget?
1. 65K to 70k max.

2. Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
1. CPU - Intel C2D E6300
2. Motherboard - Intel DG965RY
3. GPU - Nvidia GTS250
4. RAM - Transcend 2X1GB
5. Monitor - Dell S2209W
6. SMPS - ANTEC (forgot what rating )

3. Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
1. Monitor - Dell S2209W

4. Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

1. CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K
2. Motherboard - ASUS Sabertooth X58 OR MSI X58 pro-e , (please suggest more , highly confused which board for Crossfire setup)
3. GPU - 2 x MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC
4. SMPS - Corsair 850TX
5. Cabinet - NZXT Crafted Series Guardian 921 RB
6. RAM - 2 x GSKILL 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipJaws Single Stick F3-12800CL9S-4GBRL Desktop Ram
7. HDD - Seagate 1 TB
8. ODD- Samsung

5. Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
1. RAM

6. Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
1. Mumbai , Lamington road (also please advise which shop best prices and service)

7. Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
1. No
8. Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
1. Gaming

9. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
1. no idea what to avoid.

10. Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
1. BF3, BFBC2

11. Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
1. Gaming - 1920 x 1080
2. Desktop - 1920 x 1080
12. Q: Are you looking to overclock?
1. Yes (BUT no experience)
13. Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
1. Windows 7 64 bit

I don't know if I missed something , BTW i live in Navi Mumbai but will visit Lamington road this week to buy all this and get assembled in same day since i have no idea of assembling PC.
just want to ask if any MB running Cross Fire setup in (8x8) is good enough to juice out performance of cards? BTW Motherboard which i have mentioned is (16x16) but skeptical about rest of board since neweeg have some really negative rating for these 2 MB , confused .

also wanted to ask my monitor is 60hz only that means 60 frames per second only, so i should not expect more than 60+ frames till i change my monitor?

Thankyou .

Might I suggest:

- Wait for BF3 to actually release and check out benchmarks

- For all we know, TES V Skyrim might end up as a bigger hardware hog than BF3.

- New hardware is near 2 weeks from release

- Dual GPU at this time when next gen is 1 quarter away isn't a wise choice.

Yes in some way it means the same that your monitor will not display more than 60 frames per sec
But it doesn't mean your GPU will be limited to 60 fps, it can go upto 100-150 fps but monitor will display only 60 fps

Here check out this link

As you said you are looking to overclock why don't include a decent custom cooler

Just get a single GTX 580 for now. Add another one in a year or two along with a 120hz monitor. Right now it's still a niche market but should become mature soon.

With the rest of money, get an SSD. 90 gigger should do fine. I recommend the new Corsair ones which can do 555 read/write.

^^ ....his CPU will be limiting his experience IMHO even if a got the 580GTX.

+1...Please find me someone with this is stock...Have been hunting for it. ie. Corsair Force 3 GT 90gb.

1. CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K

2. Motherboard - ASUS Sabertooth X58 OR MSI X58 pro-e , (please suggest more , highly confused which board for Crossfire setup)

Man...Intel Sandybridge and X58 chipset are not compatible. They are different platforms. Sandybridge(Intel i5 2500K 2nd gen) is socket LGA 1155 processor and the X58 chipset support only LGA 1366 processor.

So, drop the X58 thing and search for P67 motherboards.

Wait for some experts to comment on the model no.s regarding motherboard and gpu.

Intel Core i5 2500K - 10.8k
Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z- 13.5k/ Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3- 12.5k
GSkill ripjaws X 8gb(2x4gb) - 3.1k
MSI GTX 570 OC - 19k / Sapphire 6950 2gb - 15k
Seasonic-x 850- 9.8k / Corsair HX 850 - 9.8k
HAF 922 - 7k/ NZXT Gamma - 2.2k/ tempest evo - 5k
Seagate 1 TB - 2.7k
OCZ agility III 120gb/ ocz 60gb - 7.5k- 11k

Total 68-75k

My advice would be get the SSD as it has really fast seek times and helps in a better gaming experience. the 6950 or even the 580 measures 10.5 inches in length so consider your cabinet carefully. for a better experience you might also want to add a cpu cooler.. hyper 212 for 1.8k would do..

thank you all of you guys for inputs.

@comp@ddict , jaydipmori : new hardware technology(bd or hd7series card) wont come till next year i think and i really cant wait that much .

@allrounder799 thanks for link it was really helpful .

i think will now add SSD in list :)

@mrcool63 Thanks for that list the i have checked review of both boards the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 having good reviews but its cf/sli (16x8) mode will it effect much?

also still confused no one recommended to go for 2x6950 , so single 6950 or 570 will able to pull BF3 load without problem (that's my concern) .

for your present monitor the gpu would give around 40+ framerates very easily with max settings. later 570 sli would do

I'm running the beta on GTX 570 with all settings to ultra @ 1600x900 and it is 80+ FPS coupled with i5-2500 (non K) CPU. As long as the FPS are consistent, the final product should run fine with some decrease in Frames.

I think BF3 beta is really not optimized so thats why i think its a resource hog... the final version would run smooth even on GPUs like GTX560 or HD6950 which BF3 beta doesn't...

Hate going off-topic, but seeing that I'm getting a pc with pretty much the same specs I'd like to know which new hardware would be coming out in the near future(two-three weeks).

I'd say go for it. dont wait for new things to cum. A 6950 or a gtx580 wud be sufficient for BF3 to run smoothly. Go for a new monitor and a good ssd..

In lamington the best place you can buy all this stuff is PrimeABGB..:hap2:

Yup I've gone through the benchies at various sites. I'm confident I'll be able to run it at the setting just lesser to ULTRA at FHD

@quixand Thanks that was encouraging btw your GTX 570 is of which company ?

holding my purchases till 12 want to see pricing of bulldozer , about shops selected few PrimeABGB , theitwares and PCguide. which will be better?

thank you all for suggestions.

Palit 570 Sonic, and when I say 80+ it is strictly an approx. figure.
