CPU/Mobo bhoot in boots ? please help,

hey, here is the problem i am having

of my two hdds
sometimes at boot, it detects 1, sometimes 2 sometimes none
(samsung 40gb and maxtor 200gb)

sometimes, after detecting 2 by the time xp starts up maxtor one disapperars, (also happened during usage sometimes)

now thats what used to happen for the longest time
now new thing
when it detects only samsung, everything works fine
but when it detects samsung and maxtor windows freezes up after "loading personal settings" thing
not even safe mode works
not even the backup windows i have installed
please help, i am despirate

Hmm,did u check if your IDE/SATA cables are not loosely connected?

Also, recheck/clean all your ide cables - if nothing helps, try installing new ide cables.

Edit : Yep, i second kumar on loose cables.

Also check the power cable of the HArd disk...Even I had a problem of dissappearing DVD Rom on my comp..On some troubleshooting I found the power cable to be the culprit...There was some loose connection...
