I have a PC with the following Config:

Intel P4 3GHz HT
Intel 915 GAV MOBO
1 GB DDR
17" Samsung Monitor
ATP3 2:1 Speakers
Sony DRU 820A DVD writter
Antec SLK 3000 B Cabinet
Antec SP 400 Watts PSU
XFX 6600 Non Gt PCIE

Now I wish to upgrade the Plain 6600 PCIE to a 7600GT PCIE card.
1) Inbetween XFX,BIG and Leadtek which 7600Gt 256 Mb Card is the best card for my config?
2)Please explain the 7600Gt is for better than 6600 or i will waiting for the release of 10x card for upgrading the existing plain 6600?
3)Now I have antec 400 watts smps. Is it enough for 7600Gt?

Id go with the leadtek actually..

The fan on the XFX 7600GT cards have said to have given problem and are loud.

The 7600gt is DEFINATLY MUCH MUCH more powerfull that the 6600...it even out performs the 6800gt easily and sometimes on par with the x850xtpe.

It has a much high clock speed and its definatly the best mainstream card to get.

Theres no point waiting for the DX10 cards, let the technology make some sence first and then the price of the cards can be justified.

A 400w psu should be fine for a 7600gt.

Hi techboy,

What about my 2nd & 3rd Questions?

I think that since you already have a 6600, you can wait for the release of DX10 compatible cards. go for a 7600GT if you have no intention of upgrading for another year or so.

450 or 500W would be a lot better for a 7600GT although It should work fine even with a 400W Antec

1. If you can't get a Leadtek, get an XFX - stay away from BIG

2. nVidia DX10 cards is likely to hit retail stores in Oct - if you can wait, wait or else get the 7600GT

3. That Antec 400w PSU is more than you need to run a 7600GT, which is way better than a 6600GT and on par with the 6800GT.

Antec SP400 should be ok but Antec SL400 may not be ok, please tell us that.

Also I would suggest that you atleast get 7600GS/GT and you can buy Dx10 not before another 9-12months or so if you are aiming for mainstream.
To all those who plan to buy a DX10 card sub 10k:
Please keep in mind that the high end cards will be available in India only in Q4 2006 or Q1 2007. By the time the mid range comes it will be another 3-6months if not more, so this makes it around a year from now which is actually a time for your next upgrade. Please don't wait for Dx10 unless you have a budget of 25k at the very minimum, that too only if you are lucky, else even more. Also, since they are so power hungry, you may need to keep aside about 10k just for the PSU. So only if you have around 40k or up for the graphic card and power supply if there a reason for a small upgrade or no upgrade, else not.

7600GT. Good card, decent VFM, leadtek > XFX > BIG, BIG's a POS IMO
->7600GT is much better than a 6600/6600GT, and equivalent to a 6800GT. ->The card does heat up quite a bit though (compared to a 6800)
->No sense in waiting for DX10, and then upgrading... wait for things to settle down, DX10 is still a long way from actually sifting down to actual games..
Antec's 400W PSU should be good enough for a 7600GT. No need for a PSU upgrade.

7600GT is a lot better than 6800GT. 7600GT is a very cool card, much cooler than a 6600GT.

Antec SL400 may not be enough, Antec SP400 should be enough.

7600GT is a very cool card? WHF duh... dumbo boy, I've used a few of those cards and they do heat up quite a bit. In fact my 7900GTX is cooler!! I should think 65 degrees is hot..
my 7900GTX is running @ around 58 max, and that's after a serious RTS session with spellforce 2 on a sunday. Consider the difference in the core and see the figures....
It isn't fair to compare to the 6600/6800 series thermally cause of the die shrink.
performance however can be compared... How slower is the 7600 to the 7900?? any idea tick tok boi? :P
