Twister? If your friends have P220s and Karizmas then for the sake of your future usage of the bike, please dont buy this. Sure its a nice bike, its smooth and looks really good (except for the cup-size engine). BUT it simply starts losing power after 50-55 and thats when you wish you had a higher CC bike, and you'll probably feel worse when riding along with your Karizma and P220 friends.

If anything, grab the Dazzler, its not as smooth as the Twister but its got that slick engine feeling of the Unicorn. Plus, the 150cc engine should keep you more than satisfied -including the performance and FE- and looks pretty good too. Just dont take it in Silver  .....

Having personally driven and being driven a lot on the pulsars and the unicorn, I can personally vouch for the Unicorn. The smoothness is unbeatable. The Dazzler was released recently and the initial reviews are pretty good. The unicorn was a performer in all aspects except looks and the Dazzler seems to have addressed that grudge for the majority prospective buyers. I would suggest you to take a test ride of the pulsars (135 and 150) and the unicorns (regular and Dazzler) and then decide. If you feel them to be too powerful for your liking then the twister is the way to go.

Come on bro..... Dont be mad at him..... Lolzzz :D

Even I LIKE (or rather LOVE) the Yamaha R1 (In fact it is my all time favorite!) but that doesn't mean I plan to buy it.......!!!

He is just a bit confused & needs sum advice. Even I was the same when I was a newbie to biking...... I 'liked' almost all bikes but didn't know which one was best for me!!!

Lolzzz :D
Mad at him? :P

It was friendly advice. The idea is to narrow down options, to make it less confusing. :)

Lol Didn't really mean that......

It's just a phrase..... Lol

I know u gave a genuine advice..... :)

Thanks to all :D ... now I have short-listed 4 bike :) ... not in any kind of order

CB Honda Unicorn Dazzler
CB Honda Unicorn
CB Honda Twister
Yamaha FZ-S 16 (included bcoz so many friends adviced for it)

I'll go for test ride this week (night shifts :@) or next week

Some last things I want to ask ... How is Yamaha service?? FZ-S 16 needs more servicing than other three?

My mind is leaning toward CB Honda Unicorn Dazzler and if not that one then CB Honda Twister :) ... any comments plz ??

^^^ You Cant go wrong with either. More so with Honda as it is relatively more reliable and low maintenance. FZ Will suite you because of your height. The Dazzler too is supposedly smaller than the Unicorn, though I cant say that as a fact cause I havent seen them together..

I own honda Unicorn dazzler... After 1.5 months did 1550 Km. No problem till yet...
Bike is smooth like silk :) Good looks. Rear disk breaks gives you confort riding in city like pune. Digital speedometer looks killing... Giving me avg of 55 Km/Lit.

Dude, get the Yamaha YZF R15 !

I was a novice too and I chose that as my first bike. Not very tough to learn.

Its a total beauty. You'll never regret buying it. But the price is a bit on the higher side 112K. Mileage should be aroung 35-45kmpl.

Only problem with 150 cc bikes that you may face will be on group rides with your friends.
Believe me there is nothing more annoying than a slow rider ( due to lack of power) on a good weekend getaway.

Dude if you have money go for P220 or ZMA-R.

I have P150 *2 and a zma now. I hate myself for not buying zma earlier love zma. Even my daily commutes are way more enjoyable.
I've just bought Nokia E72 form a Psyph3r (TE). I rode my zma from Mumbai to Pune and back to pick it up.
All this 150 cc bikes...are still slightly better commuter bikes. Since we have good roads now, where you can easily hold 100+ KMPh, 150cc bikes' do run out of breath.

I own a 220 dts-Fi its bin 2.5 years... my first bike... im barely 60kgs and im only 5'4...handles like a dream... still in love with it...use it for daily riding as well as 1000kms+ trips... its never skipped a beat... wouldnt trade it for anything...fastest indian... nuff said...

What kind of advice is that??? This guy is new to biking. Only about 2 weeks of experience not to forget one accident that too 8 years ago & u want him to get a ZMA & do 100+ kmph???

He even tells us that we may assume that he doesn't know motorcycle riding..... Or did u skip the 1st post??

This is insane...... A slow rider is way better than a dead or handicapped (which is worse than dead) rider.....

And if the rider endangers innocent people due to his recklessness, I think that such a rider is better off dead in the 1st place.

Good u didn't suggest him to buy a R1 if he has the money.......!!! Lolzzz

:D

^+1

I mentioned something similar above but what geek ashish said is probably overkill. The 150cc Dazzler is just perfect .....

IMO, It depends upon How you like to ride a Bike, the type of excitement you get while riding.., In just 3 months I started feeling that Uni's power is not enough, before that I had experience with BAJAJ scooter, plus a little on yamaha libero. My recommendation - Either FZ** or Honda dazzler, Both looks good(atleast to others :P) , they both are not so much powerful, Have good handling as well. I would say If you have quite OK experience with activa then its not bad to go for a good 150cc atleast. My whole intention of this post is that - "you don't buy any 125/100cc Bike" :P, these bikes looks so puny that it takes all the confidence away. And around me I have seen that, only those people buy 100/125cc who are purely concerned about Money/mileage. One more things is that I have never seen any 100cc bike with good stopping potential. Once Tyre are little old and you hit the break little hard even at 35-40kmph, they skid like anything.

The OP should simply avoid taking anymore advice from this thread. He's got the best advice already. Just go for dazzler. I had owned a unicorn for more than 5 years and now have booked a dazzler too in my hometown. Simply because the engine goes on and on without giving you one reason to complain. As its said a Honda lasts longer than ur best friend. It may not be completely true though honda does live upto its name. It would be even better if you could test ride most of these bikes. It will eliminate further confusion about what u can possibly handle although i strongly believe its just a matter of time when even u handle a superbike swiftly. All the best and do post ur views once u have taken a decision.

wowow Did I just tell OP to buy R1 as his first bike????

I typed what I felt in a few months after riding P150... Just like foruamit2004.

and talking about a newbie riding zma, I feel it is always better than riding commuter. eg 125-150cc bikes. ( small engines, low on power/torque, not so good road handling manners, just enough brakes)
I never said that OP should do 100+KMPH on his day with zma, but eventually he will...
(first 2000Kms are running-in anyways...)
we do have such good roads now. few...but they are there.
Plz tell me which 150 cc bike is more stable at 100+ than these 200+cc bikes.

I've ridden with guys with P150/Unis trying to keep up with zma/P220s. when P220 rides at 110KMph with ease, p150 is pushing it's valves into its own tank. is it good for the engine or even the riders safety?

first you need know the machine, then your potential and then grow with the help of your machine.
Don't limit your progress to the bike's limits.

ZMA/p220
you get to learn a lot on the same bike, instead of finding the bike's limits too early
also those who have ridden ZMA can confirm that it may be a "big" (not even 1/4 liter) bike, but the way you gain confidence in first few kilometers is unmatched by any other bike ( except R15, which is 110k/- )
along with better power, better handling and better straight-line stability, you get prepared for higher cc bikes.
PS : most guys who bought 200+cc bikes after riding Unis and P150s for years seem to agree with me.
I've organized quite a few long rides with 15+ bikes at a time. I'm speaking out of experience.

Bigger bikes are always easy to learn , they are more stable , handles better (Bigger wrt Indian scenario) . I learn t riding on my P220 , which is 3yrs old now .

Considering your weight , height & requirments , methinks R15 is the best bet overall ... its light weight , nimble , handles better and u'll have descent amount of power on the throttle to use it for 5 years , unlike other 150cc bikes .

^^ That's the only advice I want to give to the OP.......

For everything else, there are experienced riders here....... I guess...... Lolzzz :D

@AbhiFusion
Thanks mate.

R15 has very poor low end torque and it can't go offroad (& very bad roads).

@All
those who think bigger ( read : more powerful) bike means more risk, should experience such bikes for atleast 100 Kms
Plz don't talk without proper experience.

1. Members here are entitled to their suggestions/opinions.

2. DO NOT assume that people here have no prior experience over these matters. It's Ok, only if you know it for a fact.

Last but not the least, with the thread title "Bike advice for novice", one would expect members here, to suggest less powerful (150-160cc) motorcycles, keeping in mind the OP's safety & exp.

So please do keep these points in mind, before you make statements like that.

@kekerode

Sorry about the OT.

Have you finalized your purchase? :)
