hi
i'm planning on building this pc..
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE -5.15k
Motherboard: Biostar TA785G3 - 3.65k
RAM: Kingson(2*2GB) 2GB DDRIII 1333MHz - 6.0k
GPU: Sapphire HD5770 1GB GDDR5 - 10k
HDD: WD 500GB Blue AAKS 16MB buffer- 2.4k
Cabinet: Cooler Master CM310 -1.5k
SMPS: Corsair VX450 - 4k
Optical Drive: Sony DVD R/W SATA - 1.1k
A few days back i saw this thread in the graphics card section...a user said lots of people run into trouble bcos of buying cheap mobos...
My problem is i'm buying the cheapst DDR3 mobo available....
I havent been able to find too many reviews of it on the net either so i was hoping to get some feedback on it from here...
>>So have any of u guys used this mobo...if so tell me what u think ??
>>Will buying a cheap mobo affect my pc's performance in gaming??
>>Is Biostar TA785G3-HD available in india??Is this mobo of better quality??I'm not interested in any extra features like e-sata.etc...as far as features are concerned i'm happy with Biostar TA785G3 but durability and warranty are important for me...

Mate,

Good choice of components except for mobo ! Since you are going for Phenom 2 555BE proccy i suggest you Go for Biostar TA790GX A3+, a full ATX mobo with lot of ocing options & more over you have a very high chance of unlocking the proccy in to a Quad core & this mobo suppports 140W TDP proccy by default, for 5.8 K it is full VFM.

I was exactly in similar situation a month ago, I just dropped a Ram Stic (which i can purchase any time in future) and went ahead with this mobo and today i have a Phenom 2 555BE unlocked to Quad core running @ 3.8GHZ fully stable.

Thanks man,
i think i'll take ur suggestion and drop 2GB of ram...Biostar TA790GX A3+ sounds very nice but r u sure about that price??in the pc buying guide it says 6.5k...if its 5.8k i'm fine with it...but i'm sure 790GX has a lot of extra features..all i need to do is use college LAN,code and play games...if i get a really good 785G i think there'll be more VFM...Any suggestions for a good quality 785G which can unlock and overclock well or maybe a cheaper 790GX??
EDIT::Never mind i think i'll buy TA790GXB3 or TA790GX A3+

if ur not in a hurry, the i wd suggest to wait for 2-3 weeks..890GX wd be available by that time frame.. which wd bring down the prices of 790GX
if u can afford 890GX, it is the best IGP for now with the 4290

is there any possibility of under-clocking in BIOSTAR TA785G3 Mboard?

Are you sure mean underclocking??I'm pretty sure you can but i don't see the point, it will reduce the performance of your cpu.

But you can unlock cpu cores and overclock to an extent on this motherboard if that's what you're asking.

ya underclocking, lower-down clock speed to make a power efficient download pc.currently i have a sempron 140 and i used it at 800Mhz for downloading purpose.

Core unlocking feature is great.

i don't like overclocking instead I'll invest in better cpu.It makes a sense to overclock top notch processor cause u can't get better than that.Overclocking a budget or mid range cpu not a good move as a good cpu cooler cost around Rs.2000 and with this budget u can upgrade to better cpu.

Sempron 140 1800+2000(3800)= better get athlon II series cpu.(around 3000)
Athlon II X2 3000+2000(5000)=better get Phenom II X2 - 555 BE(around 4500)
Phenom X3 720 BE+2000(8200)=better get Phenom Quad X4 - 955 BE(8300)

Yup. You can do that easily on that mobo.

Most biostar 785/790 mobos has same mobo.

Im currently running my B50 at around 2.2 Ghz with Cnq which takes it to 800 mhz when idle. And ive unplugged almost all fans [even cpu fan] to reduce dust. its too hot and dusty in this summer.

Just reduce the multiplier and vcore. You can sefely run 2.0 ~ 2.2 Ghz @ 1.2v or even lower vcore. Havnt seen any major performance hit on any games/apps [except for benchs :D]

You are totally wrong mate. mine is a PII X2 550, unlocked to B50.
its a 5k proccy. I used to run it stably at 3.8Ghz 24/7 with a 2.5k cooler.
so total costs comes out to be 7.5k and its miles ahead of even a stock PII X4 965 BE.

ALmost all PII X4 (or B50) C2 stepping has somewhat same roof for ocing, ie 4.0 ~ 4.1 Ghz with a max stable clock of 3.9 Ghz. SO why buy X4 955 (highest clock c2).
X4 955 + 2.5k cooler @ 3.9 Ghz = B50 + 2.5k cooler @ 3.9 Ghz. Former costs 4k more.
So overclocking at more benefial for low~ mid end proccys, while higher end proccys has low further room for OC.

That maybe true for intel CPUs but when it comes to the phenom 2 series the whole equation changes.

The phenom II B55 and phenom II 955 are exactly identical when it comes to a successful unlock. The only difference is the size of the stock heatsink, which is not all that great anyway.

So any way you look at it, Phenom II B55 + After market cooler for ~7k is definitely better than a Phenom II 955 + Stock Cooler for ~8k.

All you need is a little luck with the unlocking:)
