Friends,

Wish to buy Birthday Gift-Microoven for H.M.
Budget - less than 10000rs.
Brand - Whirlpool, Kenstar are in her mind. But not a constraint for other good option..

Birthday is on 18th. Wish to finalize today.

thanks in advance.

Just bought a Samsung Convection (with ceramic insides) 25l for 10k. Bought it from Reliance digital. Good performance till now in 2 weeks of moderate usage. Haven't tried grilling yet.

I just bought a Sharp Solo Microwave R249 T(S).
These Sharp ones are made in Thailand and are directly imported by Sharp.

any specific technical details need to check before make the deal..
its for moderate usages... and i am living in small town.. assuming that big brands are live in and provides ASS...

Do not buy a Microwave oven. I have one and find it to be useless. its more to be used for reheating food rather than cooking. Cooking takes a lot of time. Gas is faster (and cheaper probably).

Go for a Convection oven, thats the real thing. Convection ovens normally start from 10k. Do not fall in the trap of "Convection microwave oven" They are basically microwave ovens with a pre-heating functions like convection ovens.

Also while asking in electronics stores I noticed many sales persons do not know the difference between convection oven and microwave oven so be sure to check the model online before finalizing

I don't think there are many technical details to be looked into. I think the size is the most important factor. depends on the number of people living in the house. better look up on google.

If you wish to bake cakes then probably it should pre-heat to about 360 degrees or so (based on some cake recipes I have seen on TV).

....

Microwaves are primarily used for reheating, and for store bought packaged foods.

Second para .. TOTAL RUBBISH .. do not believe a word of it. I have a Samsung convection + microwave since over 10 years and used EXTENSIVELY in both or combined modes. Service has been excellent over the years, with age it will require it. It was the top of the line model when it was purchased back then.

If you only want it for heating purpose then no point of going for Grill or Convection models.
Just get a Solo one.

However if you want it for cooking as well then you can go for the Convection or Grill ones.
Get the ones with stainless steel cavity as opposed to ceramic coated ones.
Samsung usually has ceramic coated ones and I think it's having 5 years warranty for the coating only.

Don't buy IFB since it's service may not be very good.

Also check for available service centers in your area for whichever brand you choose.

LG and Samsung are easily available and have wide service network.
Build quality of Panasonic and Whirlpool is also good.

I have similar Samsung ceramic convection oven. bought it 6 (or 5) yrs ago. working perfectly.

I do following things in it

1. Reheating food
2. thaw
3. make tea, coffee and hot chocolate etc
4. boiled eggs
5. bake papads
6. bake cakes, breads
7. noodles etc.

(8. quick dry my underwear, only when ladies are not at home and i'm in hurry ;) BEAN effect :D )

Bottomline is I love it, can't do w/o it :D

Both purpose-heating and cooking new items from Rasoi Show! R U suggesting steel cavity over ceramic? Doesnt sound laborious job in cleaning, drying compare to ceramic?

Recently bought the Sharp R-898R(S) model at 11K. It is a 26lt, double-grill, convection microwave oven directly imported from Thailand. Works great!!!
