I use Bit comet for torrent downloads. Recently, the U/D ratio shows 1.9 and d/l speeds are around 6-7kbps and u/l speeds are 20-22kbps. i am on MTNL 256kbps connection. Is there any tune up I can do to increase d/l speed or atleast reduce u/l speed?

oh ya you have to forward your ports in your router... to allow you to download at full speed .. if you chk in your peer sub menu. you would see that you only connect to local and not remote peers... if that`s so then forward your ports.. :)

here you go :)

1. Login to the router/modem using Internet Explorer. You will have a problem storing the settings if you use any other browser.

2. Setup --> DHCP Configuration

3. In the Server On Start IP box enter 192.168.1.10. Let the End IP remain whatever it is. Click Apply.

4. Click Start --> Run --> Type cmd (or command if Win 9x/ME) --> In the command prompt enter "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Copy all that info to Notepad.

5. Goto Start --> Control Panel (Classic Mode) --> Network Connections --> Right Click on your LAN card --> Properties --> Click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) --> Click Properties.

6. In the box Select "Use the following IP address" and "Use the following DNS server address".

7. In the IP address box enter 192.168.1.6 (you can use from 2-9 in the last octet) as your IP address. Enter the Subnet mask as you saw in command prompt earlier and similarly fill up the other values.

Thats it you're done, now follow the normal steps to forward your ports, wherever it says to enter IP enter "192.168.1.6" as your IP address and not the Live IP.

1. Login to the router/modem using Internet Explorer.

2. Advanced --> Virtual Server.

3. Giva a name to the rule in the rule box, enter private IP, enter protocol TCP/UDP/Both, then enter the ports you want forwarded in port start and port end accordingly, in the port map add a port through which you want all your traffic mapped, generally within the range. Click Apply.

4. Tools --> System --> Save and Reboot.

5. When its rebooted, goto Advanced --> Filters. Select Inbound Filters.

6. In Source IP, select Any IP from dropdown box. In destination IP select Single IP from Dropdown box, and enter your IP there.

7. In Source port, depending on whether you need a range or a single port, select relevant then enter the port(s) into the field. Do the same for the Destination port(s).

8. In Protocol select what you entered in the Virtual Server Rule, TCP/UDP/Both accordingly.

9. Set Action to Allow. Click Apply. When the rule appears click the Enable checkbox.

10. Goto, Tools --> System --> Save & Reboot.

11. Restart your machine, you should have forwarded ports now.

If u r not on a limited data transfer account,u shouldn't worry abt the UL speeds.U cannot decrease the UL to increase the DL.It all depends on the Seeds.If u want to decrease the DL speed, just go to
Preferances and under connection,ull find "global max upload rate" set it to whatever u like.

If u want to set the UL rate for a pirticular torrent,right click on the torrent,go to the properties and then advanced.there set the individual UL rate.

Thanks chicmagnet.. Err.. Im an amateur, so I have a few doubts :ashamed: :
What ports should we enter? What range shuold I use?Where do u get the port nos from? are they the port nos of the remote peers?

My BitComet ports aren't forwarded either. I get no remote peer initiations whatsoever (all local), hence speeds keep fluctuating.

Anyone know how to forward ports on a Huawei WA1003A router?
portforward.com has no info on this particular router.

i think in the BSNL connection .. the ports are frwrded..

ppl with airtel hv this problem generally ..

i got Huawei MT800 router ..

all ports frwrded in all the torrent clients.. (used Azureus|Bitcomet|utorrent )

^ Your router must be in bridged mode, that's why. Do you need to login manually or does the router do it by itself?

Mine is in PPPoE, configured for auto-login and requires manual port forwading.
I know because all my peer connections are initiated locally, not a single one is initiated remotely.

Go to options->preferences->connection. there you see the listen-port field at the bottom of page.
#One option let you specify any random port for listening. (this is the port number you use for forwarding on your router)
#the other option lets you block the listening port. (clearly says that if you have no listening port then it will greatly slow down your rates)

Now even if you have specified the listening port here then too it may be blocked by...
1. firewall
2. router (this requires port forwarding to be enabled)

I hope I am right.. :rofl:

you can open any ports..

i had opened a range of ports from 6881 - 6899...

i guess opening a range of ports is good if you plan to use two different clients at a time...normally you wont.just incase though.

Nobody knows how to forward ports on a Huawei Quidway WA1003A?
I don't get a SINGLE remote connection initiation in BitComet.
