Blank black screen (with mouse pointer), after installing Windows 7

My current computer has a config as below
OS:Windpws XP
Processor:Intel P4 945 GCCR chipset
Card: Geforce 6800 LE
RAM: 2GB

I am sure this config supports the Windows 7 installation.I tried installing windows 7.But it ultimately didn't work out. After installation finished, I get the 'Starting Windows' ext with colourful windows logo....and then the screen goes blank. The mouse pointer is seen but the desktop just doesn't load up.

Here's what I did-
1. Chose Custom option(not upgrade) since I didn't want dual OS of XP and Win7)
2. I was never asked if I would like to go for 32bit or 64 bit OS.I guess my current rig doesn't support 64bit, so by default 32bit is chosen.
3.Went through all the regular stuff of choosing the system drive, then installation(copying files, expanding files etc), starting services etc.

I googled a lil' bit.Ppl have had similar problem but when they are trying to connect to two monitors etc.
You guys have an idea about what went wrong?

Re: Blank black screen(with mouse pinter)after installing windows 7

did you formatted the prev:OS or just installed over the same.

Re: Blank black screen(with mouse pinter)after installing windows 7

installed over the Win Xp.Wanted to have only one OS i.e Win7

Even after restarting the system, I would be asked to boot from the DVD which I did.

Some restarts allowed me to go to the screen here I could choose safe mode.Ultimately, It does not allow you to install in any Safe mode.

Other times when I wasn't take to the Safe mode option screen, it took me straight to the installation window of Win & all over again.

I hope I am not loosing you guys here.

open the task manager at the black screen then find the process explorer.exe, close it then goto file->new then type explorer.exe
now u will see the desktop.. :P

if it does not work then simply format the windows xp drive and do a clean install of WIN 7 ....:)

yes, just try a clean format install or you can try with a spare hard drive and can reconfirm the same, dont wait more time !!!!

post your result here

There's no taskbar visible guys.right-click doesn't open up a menu.

Is this anything to do with the DVI port or something.googling gave me some indication towards this.

I think they meant trying with Ctrl+Alt+Del

your p4 does not support 64 bit i guess may be oldest chipest 845 or 915

btw u should install 32 bit and make sure full format the hard disk and delete the whole partition cause u have mess up some files might damage the windows ;)

if fail then try test onboard video depend on gpu card got damage :|

Clean format. Or try pressing Windows Key+R to get the Run menu and getting the explorer up.

IMO you need to do a clean format.

if Ctrl +Alt + del not working then try repairing windows by using windows 7 disc n if that does not work then do a clean format after backing Up your data :|

May be clean format is the answer coz I have already tried repairing windows but alas!

Absolutely, Your system needs a clean install by formatting the Windows partition. Intel 945 along with P4 fully supports Windows 7 32bit.
