Movies and video games have always had an uneasy relationship, from the disaster that was "E.T. The Game" in 1982 (it nearly destroyed the gaming industry all by itself!) to box-office bombs like 1993's Super Mario Brothers. Still, Hollywood and Silicon Valley continue to dance with each other, with the latter starting to demand more and more input into movies based off their intellectual property. For example, the Halo team is working on a movie, but insisted that they be allowed creative control over the process.
Blizzard is a company that has also shown concern about keeping control over their franchises. The maker of the Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft series once canceled the nearly-complete game Warcraft Adventures because they didn't feel it lived up to the standards set by the previous games. More recently, they took the license for Starcraft: Ghost away from its original developer, and the game now lies in limbo, awaiting Blizzard's go-ahead. Now the company has announced that it is working with Legendary Pictures, makers of Batman Begins, to bring World of Warcraft to the big screen.
