I am fed up of out roommate jamming the whole wifi network with his 24 hour torrent downloading. Is there any way to block p2p through the BSNL supplied Nokia-Siemens wifi router ?

Here's screenshot of the advanced settings in the modem:

^^ The problem is that I am unable to understand which setting is what. There are certain Incoming/Outgoing blocking mechanism. Also there is an option to block certain applications but it includes only Yahoo Messenger, GTalk & ICQ.

Will this work ?? (See screenshot) :

Is the downloading through Wi-Fi or LAN?
That page might work. Can't see options for port range blocking though. Might be in Wi-Fi settings.

^^ Wifi. But there is no such setting in Wifi. Whatever setting is applied in the above section applies to both LAN & Wifi.

Here is a list of things you can try

1) Disable UPnP if it is enabled
2) Enable the Firewall
3) Disable all Port-forwarding

Although this wont completely block P2P, it will reduce your roommate's speed considerably

Blocking and control works when you have sufficient authority over the users.

Your room mate is your peer. What stops him from undoing what you've done.

Then what will you do ?

^^ I own the modem and I only know the password. He's does not know much about how to modify the settings. And he doesn't listen if we ask him to stop download.

Blocking is possible but, since you call your roommate a noob (Someone unexperienced, a term usually used by awesome gamers like me) in tech matters, I won't recommend it. A smart method might be to surreptitiously stop the torrent on his device or, if you use a pc, to set connection mode to bridge and, revert back to pppoe when you no longer need the internet. A noob might call the local isp, scream at them and embarrass him self overall. Also, try reading two stories of how Kerala Police busted torrent downloaders. That works on a lot of people.
