My first brush with Steam was when i downloaded HL2. I did not like the application. It's too intrusive and too obnoxious.
Something that was confirmed when i recently tried to install Lost Planet that i had got with my gfx card. The CD first installed Steam, updated it, forced me to create an account and only then installed the game. But even after taking whole 45 mins in the process when i launched the game, Steam again came between me and my Planet :@ :@ :@
This time it took on itself to keep my game updated and connected to net asking me to wait at least a hour before i can play the game as it downloaded the file.
Now waiting for the update to finish :'( :'( :'(
Valve makes such nice games... why on earth did they came up with this stupid thing!!!!

it can be on your nerves at times...but i'm happy with my games..:) !

no fear of losing cd(s) .. or activation issues...activate once on your account & its yours forever*. :)

It pretty cool actually! Though i've had issues with it, the whole idea of binding your games with the account is secure, and easier. So no hassles with the CD key after you've entered it once.

Overall i'd give steam 8/10

Steam is just the 1st step to reduce piracy.

also the update part is good cuz u dont have to hunt down the update and see if its the right one.

i give steam a 9/10. :)

There is no need to create new id for steam as already have an account when u played HL2.I play all my steam games over several comps with my id and no need to carry the dvds..thats the best part which like..and u can always download the game from steam if the dvd is scratched or lost..

Steam makes it so damn easy to purchase a game. And that too, at low prices.

Steam allows you to take a backup and burn it for archival. No need to worry about no CD / DVD patched EXE's anymore.

And the binding thing is very useful too. CD key needs to be used only once. No need to hide your CD key once you use it :)
