Bluetooth Heart Monitor : Sends ECG & Alerts to your Local Hospital via SMS
Panic, panic and more panic, this is what most people go through when they are going through a Heart Attack. Imagine a device that could text to your local hospital if you are about to have a heart attack. A boon for heart patients, such a device is being developed. This Bluetooth heart monitor, which can measure the electrical signals from the heart, analyze them and produce an electrocardiogram (ECG) and send it as an alert together with the ECG by cell phone text message, is up on the cards. We all know that time plays a crucial part during a heat attack. Lives can be saved if adequate treatment is provided during the golden hour. According to a report published in the International Journal of Electronic Healthcare, Thulasi Bai and S.K. Srivatsa of the Sathyabama University in India have developed the "wearable cardiac telemedicine system that allows post-cardiac patients renewed mobility."
This how the device works: " The prototype Bluetooth heart monitor records periodically an electrocardiogram (ECG) and transmits the information via radio frequency signals to the patient's cell phone. The modified phone has an added analyzer circuit that checks the ECG signal for signs of imminent cardiac failure." Future models will hopefully incorporate GPS so that the hospitals can immediately figure out the location of the patient in distress. The developers also hope to improvise the device so that it can send the message via MMS as opposed to the current SMS text messaging system.
