i saw this neat bluetooth chip thingy which connects to the USB while i was hovering around cell phone shops. has got a ariel(sp?). and claims to have a range of 100 meters.

can i setup a bluetooth network in my hostel(which has no LAN) ?
bluetooth hub ?
does it work ? and would i be having smooth conection to a computer 2 stories above mine ?
fast enough ? can i play multiplayer games ?

thanks

You can create a small Bluetooth Personal Area Network[PAN] but I dont know how well it might work w.r.t throughput & other factors if considered.
Expecting too much out a bluetooth network isnt proper, imho if i'm not wrong then the max throughput it can give is 721 kbps.So dont expect miracles out of it.

Here are some links to get you started:

Excellent article on Bluetooth PAN from MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883259

I f you are reakky keen on setting up a network....802.11b (b only) cards come for really cheap these days....

Theoretical thorioughput 11mbps..actual spped 3-4 mbps

And the range is far superior to BT

Fast enough for games.....Kinda slow for sharing files, but bearable nonetheless
