Here's another "gun porn" game for all you FPS hounds. This one comes from Codemasters Guildford, headed by none other than Stuart Black, the person who worked on the hit title BLACK when he was with Criterion games. For those who aren't familiar with BLACK, it regarded as the best FPS title (for it's time) with kick-ass visuals on the PS2 and SexBox.

Codemasters’ BodyCount is rapidly approaching release, and following Electronic Theatre’s hands-on time with the single-player game the publisher has offered more details on the gameplay modes included on the disc. New information regarding both the single-player and multiplayer modes, and the revelation of the Solo BodyCount and Co-Op gameplay, has been revealed.

BodyCount will feature a single-player campaign that sees players blast their way across Africa and Asia on the trail of the Target Network organisation. However, following the completion of this game mode comes the Solo BodyCount mode, in which players can replay each level and improve their score by completing Combat Chains and performing Skill Kills.

The game’s multiplayer modes will consist of the usual Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch games, as well as a co-operative multiplayer game mode in which two players can team up in an attempt to survive waves of incoming enemies. Players have the opportunity to get creative, racking-up Combat Chains and collecting Intel as a team in Electronic Theatre Imageorder to survive. Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch maps become dynamically changing killing grounds which evolve over the course of each match as players shred through cover to eliminate enemies, create lines of sight or peek holes and blast escape routes. Twelve players can compete online simultaneously, assuming the roles of Target Troopers or Network Operatives as they face off in chaotic battles.

BodyCount is currently set for release in late August 2011, on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on BodyCount, and other forthcoming titles from Codemasters.

Re: 'Bodycount' announced from the creators of BLACK

The indoor levels (1:14 onwards) seem "Tron/HL2" inspired. I liked the interior texture work though many would prolly say its too "synthetic".

If it has a reasonably long SP campaign I'll bite. I actually enjoy SP mindless run 'n gun games. IMO, better to have a fun SP experience than a crap all MP one....

When was a FPS ever "mindfull". :S
mindless :-serious sam, duke nukem...etc here there is literally no story nothing to follow.

tactical:-rainbow six series, ghost recon, brother in arms types here you should know how to flank the enemy.

strategic shooters :- L4D and l4D2 type games when especially played in co-op.

though cod and bc2 dont fall completely in this category as many would argue. As these games relies mostly on the story and also sometimes it changes the gameplay elements.

Another wench to bang-on. Looking forward to it.

I don't remember going full auto, in Operation Flashpoint series, ARMA series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and METRO 2033. Waste to much ammunition at a particular point and that's it, I remember on my first play-through of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I ran out of ammo and I was running away from the mutants, shit that was scary [peashooter measly 9mm FMJ rounds].

I suppose making bodies fly around would be satisfying to some extent. :P

Its upped now , finally a shooter for weekend fun.

Re: 'Bodycount' announced from the creators of BLACK

Well it's OK'ish. The demo level was pretty short. It's run-n-gun affair. Much like 'BRINK' with an SP campaign (not bot matches). Frame rates were very poor and graphics weren't really anything to write home about. The shooting mechanics were a bit awkward. It used iron sight zoom on holding LT. Physics effects were off the roof, which was another reason for dip in frame rates. I wouldn't pin any hopes on this title.

Bodycount is out now, it's $60, and it's terrible

It's depressing when a game completely fails to make the case for its own existence. There is no fun to be had here, no hook to grab players, and no justification for the premium pricing. This is a situation where the press needs to act as a rolled up newspaper, smacking everyone involved with this game on the nose and yelling "NO!"

Metascores under 60. Doesn't look like it is worth the time and efforts.

Codemasters Shuts Down Bodycount Developer

In yet another bit of unfortunate news for UK developers, the Codemasters studio behind the recently released first-person shooter Bodycount looks to close. This news comes after the publisher proposed its plan to retire the Guildford development facility. Bodycount released to generally poor and a very weak showing on the UK charts, placing 36th.

The move is said to affect around 66 people at the studio, who is moving to strengthen its core racing portfolio, which is already strong with games like DiRT, GRID, and the F1 titles. This upcoming closure takes place just two weeks after Disney Interactive shut down the doors at Black Rock Studios.

Codemasters released a statement concerning this news and the closing of the Guildford development facility:

Codemasters’ future product development strategy will see additional studio resource invested to extend its world-class racing portfolio. The company is increasing the size of existing development teams at its on-campus studios in Warwickshire (DiRT, GRID, F1 Online, Central Technology/EGO) while forming a further team to work alongside the F1 2011 team at its Birmingham studio on a new racing title.

In line with the strategy, the company is proposing to retire from its facility in Guildford, most recently responsible for the shooter Bodycount. If progressed, the move will affect 66 Guildford studio personnel; staff are now involved in a consultation period to discuss the proposal.

As Codemasters looks to take greater leadership in the racing category, the company is proposing a studio structure that adds resource and strengthens our best-in-class racing teams.

The output from the studios on the Warwickshire campus and in Birmingham is on the increase with multiple continuing game series, brand extensions and new racing IPs in production. Both the Warwickshire and Birmingham studios have won BAFTAs for their critically acclaimed, multi-million selling titles and the company is adding resource to ensure they constantly over achieve in this competitive sector.

Codemasters envisages that it will continue to have a number of open positions within the Racing and Online studio teams at Codemasters’ campus in Warwickshire working on DiRT, GRID, F1 Online and with the F1 team in Birmingham, which is being expanded to house a full second team working on a new racing IP. In the event that staff working within the Guildford site are affected by the current proposals, they will be encouraged to apply for suitable positions on campus and in the Birmingham studio.
