Books from US to India

my friend has sent some books of SAMS institue which is computer print not like published text books. but the only mistake he did is he mentioned the value of those books as 1500 USD. will the shipment arise any customs?

is books imported exempted?

It's 5% for books but you can write to customs officer about the price being incorrect. They will ask for a proof from the sender, who could then rectify the correct pricing.
I'm not sure if this works all the time but I had did this once several years ago when I got goodies from my company in US
 
I can't say much since I mainly just buy consumer goods from china. But books marked at that price? 1500 usd? that's over a lakh! You're going to through quite a hassle to get these cleared reasonably.
