Nothing beats hands on experience with a motorcycle, be it riding or maintenance. Befriend your local mechanic, talk to them when they have time, look at how a motorcycle functions.
There are hundreds of parts in a motorcycle, most don't need to be touched by a layman.
Working of engines - it could be a 2 stroke engine or a 4 stroke ... multi cylinder, DOHC etc etc.
It creates happiness, the problems come when you desire a bigger, better bike. Secondary problems are when you hit a dog on the highway or crash into something or someone when showing off.
Terminologies... as with computers, there are many terminologies, you should get hold of a few owner manuals and a few workshop manuals and study them for both terminology and working. Also keep in mind that local mechanic terminology is at times, quite different from what's mentioned in a manual.
