Booting only in safe mode

I faced a peculiar problem today.

My laptop running Windows 7 was directly booting in safe mode. Just was unable to start in normal mode. So had to do a complete recovery.
The F8 option was working but options were not working at all. Whatever I pressed it just started in safe mode with no networking support.

Has anybody faced this problem? Don't think it is a virus problem.
 
^ Is it showing that it's in safe mode (desktop message et all) or just the safe mode like characteristics?

If it's showing only safe-mode like characteristics that might be because you might've disable all MS services. Just check by opening "msconfig" from Start Menu, select "Normal Startup"

But considering you did recovery and all I think my suggestion may not work, but give it a try.
 
After the recovery everything seems fine.

But it was pretty strange that it was booting directly to safemode only (yes safe mode). Had never ever faced such a problem. Even googling failed to get any hits for such issue. Guess it was one of a kind thing.
