my dell lap with win xp , after post it shows only black screen . i repair windows using winxp sp2 bootable cd but still prob is there ?? my data is important including mydocs and desktop . any body help me ??

boot in safe mode if u can...and copy ur imp files/docs on pendrive......if cant boot in safe mode...use any live CD(eg Ubuntu, puppy linux, DSL.....) to copy/backup ur imp data.....

Yep, you can always backup your data using a linux based liveCD.
But if you unable to boot with the liveCd, you might have yourself a hardware problem as opposed to a windows boot error.

Download Hiren's Boot CD. Download it and Write it onto a CD from some other PC. It's got very helpful Utilities in it including Mini Windows XP and All kind of peripherals checking utilities.
Once you boot from CD -> Choose 'Load Mini Windows XP' -> After it loads you will be able to access the data if there was no actual problem with the HDD itself.

which dell Model is it ?
i suppose its one of the latest ones then get into bios by tapping F2 key
under one of the hives you must be able to find "Sata operation: as your using win xp change it to " Raid Autodetect /ATA "
