I was just wondering to check on the general mentality of the people in TE.

Do you generally buy clothes from Brand stores like Mufti, Lee, Levis, Wrangler.

Or you do purchase from some non-brand stores, which do keep branded product, 1st copy, export surplus, which are generally at-par in quality with brand store and comes with nice discounts.

Opening Brand store does have a pros, that you get instant exposure in the market, but the margin is very thin, while self store will take some time to setup but you can easily mark mrgin in teh range of 50-70 %

Still confused, any help welcome :)

**And yeah if anyone of ou who have contacts in export surplus, please do share it :D

It depends right. I mean when we were young our parents didn't get us any branded stuff. It was always local apparel and I have to say that I still can't find a difference in quality.
Buying a brand has it's benefits for me as mostly the quality is very good and one doesn't have to worry about it but the main factor for me is similarity. I have been buying Pepe jeans for the past 6-7 years and now I don't even have to try one on. I just walk in the showroom, tell the guy the size and the fit ( every company has different names for different types of fitting) and walk out within 5 minutes. Even if I get some defective piece by mistake they are more than ready to change it at any moment. I had this problem with Wrangler once that all my jeans got torn from a specific area after 6-8 months of use and they always changed it, no questions asked. Same goes for Woodland and Nike, who have changed stuff for me which deteriorated due to no fault of mine even after 5-6 months of usage.

@rdst_1 , do u buy from Brand store store only ?

or some xyz mutli brand outlet which are selling branded stuffs ?

Well I prefer buying from brand outlets as I find their collection to be latest and more extensive. I have bought from multi-brand outlets as well but didn't find their collections to be as good. Online buying experience has only been good from Myntra. Both time I bought shoes from Flipkart, the shoes had a bad finish and I returned them asap, the latest case being yesterday. So I won't mind spending a little more at brand outlets as I don't have to worry about all these small niggles.

I prefer to buy branded formal shirts. But for casual clothing I prefer non-branded as you get more variety (since brands almost always carry their own name/designs on the T-shirts).

Well on a general note, if I have buy branded clothing, I would prefer to go to a multi-brand store (Lifestyle, Shoppers stop, etc.). Because single brand stores have limited options (unless someone wants to buy the said brand ONLY). While in multi-brand stores you might get a good deal and also more options to choose from.

If you are asking from a perspective of opening up a store, then I believe a non-brand store would do good if you have a good collection. Also, atleast here in Ahmedabad, single brand stores I have seen are almost always empty, as it depends on the location too. It is not so with multi-brand stores.

For first copy and export surplus of big brands, mouth-to-mouth publicity would be good enough to get you business at home even!

At the end of a day the location is most important.

i prefer to buy from multi-brand stores but if i get good quality export surplus stuff then willing to buy from such stores too. In the end, whatever we say doesn't matter as everything depends upon what people in your area(Bhilai i guess) prefer.

Bought tees and shoes worth 15.5k today. Till yesterday I thought buying from brand store would have been good but that isn't the case. At all brand stores I went today, the finish of the product has really deteriorated. I had returned shoes I bought from Flipkart due to glue residue and threads not cut properly but found that the ones in the stores suffered from same problem. Bought one tee from Nike for 1.5k just to check my size and then bought the rest of the stuff from Myntra for 14k. At least with them I can keep exchanging stuff till I am satisfied with the finish.
