Broadband connection in Chennai

I recently moved to a house in Maduravoil (Chennai-95).
Airtel, Sify and Hathway don't have coverage in the area.
Can anyone please tell me what my viable options are?
Waiting for Airtel to come to my area is not really an option since I need the connection pronto.

For the same reason BSNL is also out of question. Besides, in addition to broadband charges, I'll be paying phone rental, when I have no need for the phone. I'll consider that as a last option.

Thanks in advance.

thixkull, how long would it take to get a BSNL connection? Any idea? Right now I don't even have a landline connection. So I'll have to account for that too.

Vince, thank you for the contact number. Since Airtel, Hathway or Sify don't have coverage I just assumed that Tata Indicomm wouldn't have it either. But I'll give it a try today.

rainu_rajinder, my first choice would have been Airtel too, but the reason that I created this thread was because none of the major ISPs have coverage in my area.

bsnl claims that they give u a landline connection within 3 working days...

so a landline and broadband shouldnt take u more than 4-5 days ...

but i must remind u .... take bsnl only if u plan to take the ul plan... if not its not worth it..

I have applied for Tata Indicomm connection on Saturday. They said they'll confirm feasibility in 3 working days. You actually have to place the order before they confirm feasibility. It's Rs.800/month for unlimited 128kbps connection. Installation/Service charges extra. If I don't get it then I guess It'll have to be BSNL.

@Scramjet: hmm.. you on prepaid or postpaid?

anyway, i recommend you go for a 256 or 512kbps plan first.. then switch over to a lower speed plan. ;) Winky Winky.

From their website, the postpaid plan seems to be cheaper. What's the advantage of switching from a 256kbps plan? Anyway, I don't even know if they'll give the connection or not. Today is the 3rd working day, I think. Hope they'll call me today.

2 things
1) Dont trust their "we'll get back to you in 24 hours" too much. do call them every other day.
My order(or whatever) got mysteriously cancelled and i had to call them up and order it again.

2) they..er.."forget" to lower the speeds once you switch plans from a higher to lower speed plan. ;)

I'll call them today. Right now I can't afford any more than 128kbps. I'll pay for 4 months so that I won't have to pay the security deposit and installation charges. Or can you suggest a better idea? I need to save come money to buy a DTH system. DishTV or SCV, I haven't decided.

But I'll need more than 25hrs online a month. 25hrs means less than 1hr per day. How is that better than 128kbps unlimited? Or am I missing something here?

Called em up yesterday. They said they have transferred it to the concerned department and that they're still confirming feasibility. It takes upto 20 days to get the connection. So I should get connected by 25th August. So if anyone else wants a Tata Indicomm connection, you know what to expect.

This is what their enquiry page says now.
Thank you for your interest in the supersmart, superfast Tata Indicom Broadband connection. We are pleased to inform you that, the feasibility of providing services for a Tata Indicom Broadband connection, at your following requested location has been confirmed.
A sales representative will now contact you in the next 72 hrs to help you choose the right tariff plan, fill up the application form and collect the amount from you towards the relevant charges.
