Hi,
Recently, im unable to browse certain sites.I could browse them earlier, but from the past 2 days i cant visit sites like 360indians.com (the main page opens, but the forum doesnt) it just keeps on loading. Also i cant click the links that appear on doing a Google search.

Previously this had happened once on XP, but that was on my older hdd so i threw that and on my new hdd instlalled Vista and it worked fine.

I have tried visiting the same sites on a laptop (through wifi) and they worked
Browser is Firefox, internet is Airtel

Already did a virus scan, NOD didnt find anything.Scanned with PCDoctor, and it found 2 trojans but even after deleting them the problem persists.

Please help :(

check with security settings on internet options .. for temporary basis.. turn down the security settings to low-medium or low for that matter and see if its the same issue

Ok i found out the reason, its a trojan/spyware called VirtuMonde.

Spybot detects it, but cant delete it. It shows that its fixed, but when i scan it again it detects it again.

PCDoctor cant even detect it--

Trying Ad-Aware now. Any other solution for removing Vundo/VirtuMonde?

use Spyware doctor or trojan remover it ll delete it .. i get it many times and removed or u can remove using Hijack this delete it in safe mode though ..//:hap2:

yea ok i have the exact same problem as well and guess what, my pc is infected with the same spyware - virtumonde.

nod32 detects and cleans it but apparently it doesn't do it too well cause the problem doesn't seem to go away. ad-aware 2008 is also unable to detect and remove it.

can you please post what you did if you successfully manage to remove it ?

also if possible, can you post direct links to the software to remove it? the reason i ask is because googling won't work as google is borked itself.

ok so i think i've gotten some control over the issue...

with the help of a friend i got to Winfixer|Virtumonde|Msevents|Trojan.vundo - HijackThis.de Support Board which is a page dedicated to fixing this nonsense. there is a tool there called vundofix.exe that seems to have done the job for me.

(in case you are unable to open the site, the direct link for the app is http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 )

when you launch the application, you basically scan your windows folder and once infected files are found, you delete them. the files are almost exclusively .dll files in your system32 folder (i also saw some .ini files). most of the files are deleted easily but some are system locked and they require a reboot to be deleted. this is where i had some issues - it took a total of 5 reboots to clean out all the files. thrice i kept rebooting but the application picked up the same files and said they were non-deletable (and asked for a reboot again). once when it had supposedly cleaned out all the files, i ran the application again and it picked up more infected files (which again took 2 reboots to remove).

the last time i rebooted however, the application did not show anything and booted normally into explorer. my sites seem to be working fine as of now, so i guess it's not too bad for a 4 am fix :)

i'll probably run the app again in safe mode later. if the op has any questions feel free to ask.
