Hello,

currently i have 3 pcs and one lap, and in lan with a hub n cables.

i am planning to get new connection ffrom bsnl dataone..so which modem i should buy ( or should get one on rent from bsnl) to server my purpose

i want net available on all machines and any machine should be accessible from other one.

also my lap have wirless..so wld prefer a wireless modem/router

so whats best for me ? my connection remain on 24-7, so it should be very stable so guys whats best for me ?

i have already search in forum but couldnt find anything useful...

also i am in jaipur so availabilty may be a issue ...

Thanks,

get 900 rupees plan in bsnl

i think that would suit you best

and they tehmselves give you a wireless compatible modem (you have to ask for it)

it costs some 1800 or so...

yup i am going UL900 plus plan but the modem which bsnl provide is good enough for 24-7 use ? and how i am going to connect all machines to it ?

i iwll go for type-2 or type-4 modem,

or i should go for buffalo, netgear or dlink wireless router +modem?

can sombeody help ?

Thanks,

which modem does bsnl provide btw? haven't used bsnl so don't knw.. if u can do away with the modem bsnl gives u, go for a buffalo or netgear adsl modem n wireless router ..

Else if bsnl's modem is thrust upon u just go for the Buffalo wireless router which is mentioned often in this forum.. WHR-G54S or WHR-HP-G54(this being the high range one) depending on budget..

bsnl gives some chinese made hyuwei(may spell it wrong) modems n modems are optional, i can buy it myself

somehwre in fourm i read WHR-G54S costs around 2.2k and WHR-HP-G54 around 3.5k

first one comes in my budget but can ypu please confirm it also a modem.. just read its just a router.. or if somebody can give me link which have details ?
Thank guys,

Thank guys,

Both the models i mentioned are just wireless routers, no adsl modems in them.. If u want an adsl modem cum wi-fi router u'll have to go for DG834G frm Netgear or a similar one frm Buffalo(can't recall the model), but both will be above 3k, maybe arnd 3.5k..

If u don't have the budget for that rite now, just get a wi-fi router and stick with bsnl's modem.. As greenhorn says it hasn't given him any probs, so u shouldn't have probs either.. If later on u wish to change u can do so..

umm if i go for bsnl type -2 or type-4 modem which comes with wifi , how i would connect my all machines with it ?

if i just enter lan cable of modem into my hub uplink .. that will work ?

remeber i just have one ethernet port on my pcs, and there is no extra slot to add extra lan card...

really confused how to set it up..can somebody help please

Thanks

Bsnl is givin out Utstarcom modems,,,:cool2:

if u go for type 4, u'l hav 4lan ports,,,I think dat'l do for u,,,
Also, try goin for rented one,90rs per month,,which means the cost gets distributed over 20months.:cool2:

:S :S :S ???? Well,
Personally rent will be good cause u can change d modem, if u need somethin better,, though they also buy back ur modem incase u want to,
but den u know bsnl,, dey take so much time to provide somethin they charge for:@ :@ :@ ,,,, only god know wat wil happen wen dey have to give d money back!!!!
lol

N unless u know how to configure d modems don go for other makes(Its d easiest thin in d world...ok ok,,, somewhat easy,,)

umm i guess i can configure it .. i did it for my bro who have dlink modem.. has really bad experince with its firmware so dont want to go for it.

and if i take modem from bsnl i have to pay 500 for deposit + 250 for installation that makes 750, so i am thinking may be i just add some and have my own.

maybe i should go for just adsl modem and then buy wireless router later ?

i amm all confused i guess

The BSNL wi-fi router cum modems are quite good enough. Instructions on installation can be found here. I don't see any benefits in going for more expensive routers unless u're using non-standard wifi protocols or if you have lots of data transfer over the w-lan. In which case, buffalo is a good choice.

ok i guess i will go for type-4 bsnl modem. n first will take it on rent.

just last thing to confirm ..by that i will be able to access other machines from one machine right ?

Thanks,

^^ yeah considering that these 'type-4' wi-fi routers cum modems have a 4-port ethernet switch, you can just do away with your exisitng hub, connect all the PCs to the switch and use the wireless for ur laptop.. That way you'll be able to access anything frm evrything...

Last time I had checked, some 11n products had problems when using differently branded products. By non-standard, I had meant non-certified as in not Wi-Fi Certified. Hope that clears it up.
