Hi guys, hope the title doesnt confuse!:P
1.Okay i have BSNL Broadband Home 750UL connection since past four years. Using a Huwei/ Sterlite SmartAX Mt841 modem via USB connected to a Win Xp machine (A)SmartAX MT-841 ADSL MODEM (Type-III) MENU

2. I have connected another Win Xp machine (B) to machine (A) over LAN (wired-switch)
i want to share the net connection on this machine too.

3.Have a lappy based on Win7 which i need to connect over Wifi for internet access.

4. Planing to buy a Buffalo N150 WCR GN or a Netgear N150 router for setting up the wifi network.
Now suggestions needed regarding-

1. How do i connect the modem to the router? i know through the RJ45 jack but would need help regarding configuring the modem as currently it is linked via USB (tried connecting using Rj45 connection on lappy but made no headway)

2.Only the lappy (& maybe my smartphone ) would be using the wifi so i need my desktop (WinXp (A)) machine to share the internet connection.

3. Also i would like to know how it would be possible to share this net connection with WinXp machine(B)...though this is optional.

p.s.- i have not brought the router because waiting for clarifications. i thought better to go for new modem+wireless router but the good ones are costly<2.5K. dont think BSNL ones are good enough.

P.P.S- i am a total Noob at this!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ashamed:

Thanx in Advance!!!!:thanks!:

You can get dlink 2750u adsl 300Mb/s wifi n router for 2.5k and 2730U dlink n150 for 2k. Both of them are adsl wifi N routers. Or if you want to get a router and use your existing modem, do the following :

configure the router as WAN port. You will find this option somewhere in your wifi router. By doing so your router's 1st port will become the dsl port. Now setup a different network range in your router. If your modem has gateway 192.168.1.1 set the router's gateway as 192.168.0.1. Connect the 1st port of router to any port of the modem. Switch off and on both modem and router. Now you have added wifi to your BB.. Thats it . But note that you can make any wired connections from the pc to the router only and not to the modem as it wont work...

^^thanx for the reply anfjavid!!! using my existing modem would be of great help as i could cut my router budget by half. My only problem is i am not sure how to configure my modem as currently the modem is connected to the PC by a USB connection and not RJ45 jack...does this need configuration?coz i guess the modem shall be connected to the router through an RJ45 jack only. My modem is almost four years old, so configuring details for the same are not easliy available. Also i wanted to know how to auto log in in BSNL BB as when the modem is connected to router i guess none of the PC shall need to remain on?sorry total noob here!!!
