Need answers from this forum as BSNL Haryana guys were not able to give me any justification for the following query:

Q) Is it mandatory to pay monthly landline charges for all the BSNL broadband plans (provided over telephone line) even if
a) no telephone instrument is provided/installed by BSNL?
b) it's not a combo plan?

I've used various plans by BSNL over the last 1 year and I am paying around Rs 100/month as landline charges (SULABH or something). I can understand that from BSNL's point of view, it's just a phone connection but what I had applied for is just a broadband plan. Moreover, I am paying this landline amount over and above their advertised prices for broadband plans. Does it work like this all over India?

Thanks!

Answer...
First you need to cancel your current 100 rs landline plan and
Then Apply for any broadband plan,it does not matter if it's either combo or not,you will have to pay only plan you opt for..
They provide bsnl telephone instrument in case some one need combo plan...

This might be relevant:

BSNL has launched some loyalty bonus scheme as well, effective from April 2013.
If you pay the landline's bill amount well within the stipulated time period and ur bill is above a certain limit, they will now be awarding credits which can be redeemed to make free fone calls.

Google out the exact details.

@manucitc: But I didn't have BSNL landline connection to begin with. I applied for their cheapest "broadband-only" plan and they just threw in a telephone cable through my window. That's it. No phone instrument, no modem, no installation, no DNS info, no nothing. And when the 2-page bill arrived, it had the BB charges as advertised, along with charges for SULABH plan.

@Spacescreamer: no don't want any phone/free phonecalls etc from BSNL. I just need an internet connection. I just wanted to check with other TE folks if BSNL "throws-in" phone services on top of broadband connection?

Hi Namrata,

As far as I know, BSNL doesn't provide BB Only service. They require you to have a LL. Your best option is to opt for a combo plan and cancel the LL plan.

I doubt it But, Let me know if Haryana has any special 'BB only' plan. In that case you need to visit the nearest BSNL CSC and lodge a complaint. You may meet SDE in charge of that CSC for further clarification. And, No, BSNl won't throw-in anything more than you ask for.

Actually I think I saw such a plan (like namrata says) in my local bsnl office 2 years back. I think the 100 rupees is line rental which is compulsory. Normal phone rental (on which calling facility is available) is 150pm I think. The internet only line has no calling facility but I think you can receive calls on it.

Namrata, you should opt for a combo plan if you do not want to pay monthly rental. Those plans are costly as you can imagine.

Yes i understand you do not want it, but the new scheme was for information's sake. Just in case that was the threshold one was looking for to get the landline services as well.

Your best bet prolly is, that u get the combo plan and opt for the paying scheme which is pay as u use. I dont rem its name, but in all probabilities u ll have the phone installed at ur place, but u wont have any free calls attached with ur plan. Gen they charge some kinda flat rental and provide some free calls to the subscriber.. but with the above mentioned scheme, u pay as per ur usage. Hence i think there is no rental and no free calls allotted as freebies for the landline.

Thanks for all the responses.

So, this recurring charge is meant for "line rental". I don't know why BSNL had to take the route of "hidden charges". They should've mentioned all the charges in their broadband plans. Anyways, the mystery is now resolved for me.

Opting for a combo plan and then getting rid of the landline is not required as I already have "non-combo" plan.
and I've already met the SDE and went to CSC... It's only after their absurd justifications, I posted my query on TE.

After opting for pay as u use for the phone connection, if you get the landline phone installed and keep it aside.. how is that an issue?
You ll only pay the fixed rental for the broadband plan u opt for..

see, it was the "line rental" charges that i didn't understand earlier. nor did the BSNL babus explain me. BSNL provides broadband to home users over telephone cable - so this is the charge for that "line". got it? not the phone and not the internet. it's just the rent for that telephone line to my house.

whether i take the "pay as you use" phone plan or the plain broadband... "line charges" would always be there... i wanted to get rid of that as the bill said it was "SULABH" phone charges with so and so free calls. i got to know from the posts in this thread that it's "line rental" charge.

so, in the end, i guess i do have a "pay as you use" phone plan with first 100 calls free. my SULABH charges remains fixed at Rs 100 as i don't use the BSNL voice services.

^how much do you pay now including internet charges? You don't need to get a new line to change plans. Just a letter to commercial officer will do. IMO combo plans without line rental starts at 500pm I think.

will it save me money? will it help me in getting rid of line rental charges? actually, i don't want extra phone in my house even if it has free calls attached to it.

Yes, there won't be any additional rental charges for the combo plan. Its up to you whether you want to use the voice connection or not.

alright, i'll look into combo plans. i thought combo meant phone and internet, but i only wanted the latter.

i've tried 3 different plans of less than Rs 2K/month over the last 1 year.

i doubt that i can get rid of the line rental charges. that's why gurgaon BSNL babus couldn't explain me those charges as there's no such thing as "zero line rental charges" in their dictionary :)

I am also in same scenario like yours, dont want extra phone and dont want to.pay extra cash for landline.
I use combo plan of 900rs rental and has 2mbps speed till 8gb and then 512 kbps unlimited.
This also has 350 calls which were any network previously but now only bsnl network.
Suggest same to you.

Using this plan since like one yr or so.

can you please post the breakup of your monthly bill? thanks!

900 as rental.
Whatever off net calls,

And service tax on top of that.
Total comes to around 1000-1100 each month.

@pratikb thanks! well then my non-combo plan has the same breakup. i'll stick with BSNL until tataindicom sorts out wimax issues at my place.
