BSNL EVDO for torrent downloads?

I will be shifting my house to an area where it will be difficult to get a regular cable internet connection so I was thinking of getting some wireless internet service. Will I get good upload and download speeds with BSNL EVDO in torrents or should I go for the 3G service?

My main concern is with downloading movies. IF i don't get good download/upload speeds on torrents then I won't buy. I read some conflicting opinions on the internet where some people are saying that due to lack of a static IP and port forwarding speeds are bad while some say otherwise.
I am confused. help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I too am staying in a area which is not served by any wired ISP. The only thing holding me from taking a wireless internet is their ridiculously high priced plans with very less data transfer limit. So if you are more into downloading stuff then you are out of luck since no wireless broadband provides unlimited plans.

BSNL EVDO here is in Pune AFAIK works ok but you really dont expect blazing speeds with that.

Try to see if you can get a BSNL line at your home.

With the EVDO torrents dont really work that well. I never get anything more than 10KB on torrents.
You will need RS account. With RS account I get 100KB min all the time. I got myself RS account just for the evdo.

okie. Thanks. but then the range of movies on rapidshare is always lesser than on torrents. I guess the only option for me is to somehow try an get a wired connection.

RS--> Rapidshare

EVDO has p2p blocked so torrents don't work in evdo:)

If u want torrents then EVDO can't be used...u can use photon+ but they have stopped their unlimited plans

i am using evdo with torrents with a reasonable success.

On public trackers i get 48 to 60 KBPS depending upon the torrents.

On private trackers I get 70 - 90 KBPS.

But the upload speeds are horrible, so you have to keep seeding for quite a long period of time to maintain ratio.

^^

Torrent works on EVDO, the only problem is connectivity when you are far from towers.

ou keep on disconnecting frequently, making your connectivity with other peers bad, hence detoraiating your uploads and downloads../

It DOES work.

I am using it for the past 50 days or do. The worst thing is the connectivity. Like it DOESNT WORK AT ALL in my room, but in my parent's bedroom the speeds are like 170 kBps plus constant (same for torrents :) ). The thing helping me is that i have a BSNL tower like barely 70 meters from my house mate, you need to see if u have a bsnl tower nearby, if you dont then forget it.

Annd the uplaod speeds truly suck, they wont go more than 100 kbps. i have an excellent ratio so i personally dont care, i download a 4.5 GB 720p RIP in like less than 16 hours, what more can a person desire? :)

^^ True. If EV-DO works in you area. it will work like champ. My nearest BTS is less than 200 mtrs. and i get constant 80-100KB during daytime. at night hovers around 180-200KB.

Torrents work fine now on EV-DO. they have changed the IP scheme so no more waiting period on RS and others.

^^EVDO is around 550 bucks only per month with no download limit and no FUP:)

@AmanDeep... I stopped downloading 720p's some 6-8 months back...just do 1080p's and sometimes full 42GB bluray rips:)...I do 720p's for ok movies that too 8GB prints and hindi movies

For me it has increased to Rs.900 per month inclusive of device rental charge and all taxes, as base plan charge has gone up from 550 to 650rs per month.

I usually get around 40-50kbps for torrents. But performance is never consistent as it is wireless.

Just got BSNL EVDO. Mixed reaction till now. The highest bandwidth i have got is on torrents only and is around 1MBps. RS simply sucks at 32KBps.

cool ^^ :p i personally dont have a screen larger than the 1366*xxx, so 1080p is of no use to me :p

^^Same here dude....my 42" is HD ready...but I have a 22" screen

But I just want the best quality so download the 1080p's:)

Somehow I just feel it would help me be prepared when I get a 52" full HD TV

Ok so BSNL EVDO it is. Thanks guys. :) I am in guwahati. Hope I dnt have to be queing for this and hope I get lucky with the speeds as I won't be staying in the heart of the city.

hey guys .. as you know bsnl is not in mumbai.. so if i buy a bsnl evdo data card from pune , then can i use it here (in mumbai) , i mean does it work on roaming..
