hi
i read on some forum that by changing to umts on a 3g phone you can access bsnl's evdo network is that true?

i know that there is a evdo tower near my house and one of my neighbor is using a evdo datacard so can i use a phone to browse at evdo speed at my home?

please clear my doubts....

well to start off,im on a vodafone network.

I switched to umts mode.

Immediately saw 3G then 3.5G come on top left corner of my nokia 5230.

Then i had no signal available.

I manually checked out operators.

Voila!,i got cellone....

But "Access Denied".

When i tried to access it.

So unless you are on bsnl, the answer would be a strict no

I think this is unlikely to work since EVDO is a CDMA service while the 3G network of BSNL is GSM type.
If the phone does not have the necessary decoders/encoders to use EVDO service then your phone wont be able to go online on such a service.
And even then I doubt if BSNL will let you use their EVDO network without any kind of authentication check(username, password) to prevent misuse.

EVDO is a CDMA service...you can't use it from GSM 3G enabled phones...it's like flying a aeroplane from rocket launch pad...hope you got my point :P

bsnl 3g is set to operate on umts network and umts works both on gsm and cdma
i dont know about the user name and password but if you have a 3g phone that works on umts you should be able to access the bsnl 3g network.
