BSNL Night Unlimited question

Stupid question...

I just got BSNL's DataOne 256kbps broadband and am on the 500 p.m. plan. There is this "night unlimited" thingy available in this plan. My question is whether I have to ask those people to activate the night unlimited business or is active by default?

I just downloaded Serious Sam II demo (236MB came in about 3 hours, connection looks good) and when I look at the "Service record" at the DataOne portal it shows that the connection was active between 2:00 AM and 7:45 AM and there has been a total data transfer of approx 580MB (I was also downloading the FEAR demo parallelly, still not complete).

The plan allows a max of 1GB per month and on the first day I have already used up 0.65GB! Please tell me that Night Unlimited is active by default. :(

Thanks Switch, I just checked with their customer service. They confirmed that the night unlimited part is active by default and the service record will show each session regardless of when the connection took place and I need not worry about it.

Ah, that is sure heartening to know!

^ Nope.

236,000 KB (approx) / 3 hours ~ 78,666 KB per hour

78,666 KB / 60 mins ~ 1311 KB per min

1311 KB / 60 secs ~ 21.85 KB per sec

bsnl broadband connection is good(getting good 32-37kb/sec) but their service is crap as hell, wont recommend for that reason alone. Better to be happy with Airtel 600p.m 128k unlimited plan. Just my personal opinion based on 2 months experience on dataone.

Welll i tried calling up dataone customer care once. After that i didnt not have enough guts to do it again... Thier speed is good but the plans are capped...

that is 174.8Kbps :-o and its a awesome speed ...... i am on this crappy 64kbps :(

Never stick with Sify ... BSNL DataOne is very good but I would recommend you/anyone to get Airtel ! they have excellent customer service support unlike BSNL which suck .

to the poster , make sure you start downloading from 2:15 ( ur own time ) , bsnl time servers are abit different . otherwise you might get charged .

hey I got a Q... I am on dataone h500(256kbps) If my friend gets a 1MBps connection can we both use it at the same time for the Nighttime unlimited??

as in both log on at the same time using the same account?

I dont think so. You can log on to your account only through your broadband line. Your question is confusing.

u can both use the same connection, i am not sure abt simultaneous use(ithink u can). But its illegal to use same connection for multiple users as business plans only allows such option.

Ok here's a question. I'm on a dial up and as of now i get 8hrs free everynight and sundays full day free.. on weekdays the free night time is from 11PM-7AM but i usually set back my computer clock and get about 9 hrs of download time everynight.. And no deduction in subscription..

Now regarding this night unlimited on this 500 thing is from wat time at midnight till morning is this service available..

2AM - 7.45 AM??

Can someone please elaborate that for me.. cuz i seriously dont want to waste my time ona dialup downloading GB's of data every week while i can do the same in a night's time.. and another problem being airtel not covering my area]

Anyways please do answer how many hrs is free over night on the 500/mth connection of dataone

And BSNL servers suck.. u can always connect change the time use for longer than the actual period.. and 95% of the time no deduction on the subscription.. i dunno abt broadband.. but works for me

32-37 KBps for a 256 line is a great speed, airtel would give a steady 26-28 at max

KwokFist, are you sure mate cuz the bsnl would monitor the time you logged onto their servers, they are not going to check your system clock...

must be some other reason :) correct me if i am wrong, interesting !!!

yes man it works been doing it for over 2 yrs belive it or not.. I've set as much as almost 1 and half hour .. but after 8in the morning sometimes it doesnt work. but the same if u use day time it wont work:no:

btw im on a separate line for internet which is only in-comming and i pay 550 p.m for the same no phone bills tho.. have to get the subcription or renewal card from the local bsnl office or counter in the post office.. 25hrs package does the job.. and 11PM-7AM is free and i can download 100MB usually cuz the speed is very good even by BSNL standard on their dial up line and here in mangalore customer service for the dialup users is quite good:)..

http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm Here's the tariff for the Broadband

They have mentioned .4 gb for transfer for 250rs p.m tariff users  wat a lame website.. and crappy service..

NOTE: those of u on 500 and above connection 2AM - 8 AM is the night time FREE hours.. use it!! is all i can say..

Check the tariff on the bsnl website for the same.. and dont worry about the phone bills.. set ur pc time atleast 5 mins behind actual time if ur worried about using up ur available bandwidth during every-night usage.

BSNL servers atleast dial-up ones logs the user when they connect to it.. u reverse the time and disconnect and connect back in it logs that time.. so it works for me and i get about 9hrs usually instead of 8 and that's all i do almost on a daily basis... not sure about broadband try it at ur own risk;) ... All in all 6 hrs on a 256kbps is anytime better than waiting 3 days to download the same amount of data..

Cheers..

I downloaded 62MB worth of Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express edition ( without optional components ) within 35 minutes :) using my bsnl broadband 256kbps ,Home 500 plan during the free time hours . I'm happy that it gives me solid 30-32kbps download speed on an average
