i m currently using braodband connection from a local provider.........

4mbps connection , 2am to 8am unlimited !!!!

i used to dl avg 7gb durin the free time , but now they are cappin the connection @ 1mbps.....i called them up , but they said that the connection cap is due to traffic..........i think they are tryin to screw the customers :@ ...

so decided to change the broadband provider????

i have choices between tata and bsnl . either bsnl 500 , 2mbps 2m to 8 am unlimited @ 500rs, or take tata flash 256 , 256kbps(8am to 10pm) 1.5mbps(10pm to 8am) + unlimited alltime + sunday booster @ 1100rs ...

btw can nybody tell what a sunday booster is ?? boost of speed ?? nyways !

primary need data download at reasonable speed!:ohyeah:

which one to choose???

are there any alternative plans that i can use???

Steer clear of all the fancy stuff like Sunday Boosters.
Next thing u WONT know coming ur way is monthly Horror which were hidden during the 29 days of the month.

All these terms are leverage to do what has been done by your current provider.

Bsnl has been good to me since the past 4.5 yrs ( knock on the wood)

Home User 500:
Will give u the smacking download speed but u ll have to be careful abt not overlapping on the countable hours.
Even a minute here and there and all data is counted against billable hrs.
BSNL Customer Care is only on paper.

The 750+tax plan:
Has the reg 256kbps speed but u can surf and download with all the care thrown to the winds.
Peace of mind.

Not anymore mate. They have changed billing system and charge only from 2AM to 8AM.

Well if they have, then its a good step.

Have had horrible experiences while i was on HU500.
CC cant spell broadband there.

Honestly, i wd wanna see before i believe on that claim.
Even my neighbours got the connection changed, they come from defence background but BSNL guys just wont listen to them either.
It pays to play safe with 'sarkari' connections.
HU 750 has been just fine for me ever since. No hassles. :)

Both ISP are horrible.

BSNL good price, good package for worst customer care. If you ever fall in wrong billing or disconnection problem... you will know what is BSNL.

TATA, costly. Don't have experience but people generally avoid getting TATA BB.

My suggestion:

Stay with your current local provider (for download purpose), and also get a new additional BSNl 256 UL connection for day time surfing.

i have been using bsnl ul750 for 2 years,it is too damn slow! and i'm warning u bro,u can max download 2gb/day! i would recommend you to go for 500 bsnl or airtel 1099ul.

@iml3g3nd

You are using ADL right? I am on the same plan @ Cochin. And the speeds are great here. I can easily download 9-9.5 GB every night. :)

Are you sure its capped at 1mbps? Cause if I download torrents I don't get the full speed, but with Rapidshare Premium or MegaUpload I get the full 4mbps. They are definitely throttling the torrent traffic cause sometimes its not possible for me to even download a .torrent file whereas when using my Photon+ connection it works fine.

Anyway the plan is awesome and I don't think there is a similar plan from other ISPs. Also the Homenet 950 plan gives 8mbps during Night UL that too for 8 hours.

@varkey

dude i m sure the connection is capped ..... i also used to dl nearly 9gb per night ..... but recently the are screwin up !!!!!!!! connection capped exactly at 1mbps ........ when i called them they say that 4mbps is shared and that i wnt be able to get that bandwidth all the time !!!!!!! what shall i do ?!?? nyways !

^ Even during non Night UL hours, the speeds are capped at 1mbps? Then there is something wrong. Try sending a detailed mail to the Trivandrum Nodal Officer ( Asianet DataLine ) These days I don't even care to call the customer care guys as its pretty useless. Mailing the Nodal Officer has given immediate attention to my problems with the ISP.

the nodal officer also replied the same " 4mbps shared and that i was not supposed to get 4mbps bandwidth all the time....." :( ............. as per TRAI regulations braoband means dedicated connection ryt ..................... what next can i do ??? sue them ???? nyways mailed again !!!

^ If not all the time, atleast during non peak hours you should get almost full speed right.

You can try changing the plan to Homenet 950 for a month, I was getting 8mbps on it. When changing the plans they may reset the limits mostly.

Anyway I don't think you have much of an alternative, other than BSNL. Tata when I last asked said all unlimited plans incl the one you mentioned in the first post has a fair use policy. If you exceed the limit continously for three months your connection will be suspended. Please check with them before taking the connection.

have changed to homenet950. today....... now gettin 4mbps......

lets see if they capp this too...i have inquired with many of my college mates havin asianet connection , and they all have the same thing to say " asianet caps bandwidth " .... nyways !!!!
