hi guys.. since 2-3 days my browser is getting redirected to http://motive.bsnl.co.in on first start. there the bsnl site prompts to download BSNL Self Care Software(161MB NOT counted in your download MB's on limited connection) and modem upgrade utility.... so my question is whether we really need to install this software ...i mean is it really helpful..... Though i have downloaded the self care setup (motiveactivation.zip size:161MB) and unzipped it and found that it had a trojan in it.(Antivirus report: Click2kUns.exe'

contained a virus or unwanted program 'TR/Spy.179872' [trojan]
).... so havent installed it yet ...i am waiting for feedback from someone ....

Help please....

PS: i have already installed modem upgrade and successfully upgraded modem firmware (although there is not much visible difference in the modem interface or options) ...

1. Trash the setup file/allow your AV program to block it.

2. Switch to/reinstall Internet Explorer 8.

I have quarantined the particular file....and i use Firefox....

I did read up on this annoyance and it looks like every time you restart the modem/use the dialer to connect, it redirects you to the particular page.

There was an article where someone had changed some settings within the modem's configuration page, although I wouldn't bank on that.

A few others have actually installed the software, not being able to stand the annoyance.

If you use Firefox, there's the "Warn me when websites try to redirect the page" option, which you can enable within the settings.

People have actually filed complaints over this and are yet to see any decisive action being taken.

And yeah...I don't think you got what wishmaster.dj meant. Nevermind now.
:P
