I was looking at BSNL web hosting prices...very incompetitive, isn't. Probably only company which charges separately from e-mail and web, apart from their way high price.

BSNL Web Hosting Packages

Btw, I was looking for web colocation service preferably in India, any suggestion?

Ah..your looking for hosting actually and not colocation. What is your budget? I could offer you a hosting package. If interested please PM me.

Check this thread:
http://www.techenclave.com/forums/urgent-domain-webmail-82922.html

I got the service for SpriteHost Dot Com and I found their plans to be fantastic! You can have a word with its owner Mr. Arun. (Check the aforementioned thread for details ;))

really a good threat that was.
Can someone tell me how much space would techenclave.com sites would occupy? I need to create a similar forum, not for technology.. we have TE for that :bleh: but something else and i gotta get planning.. any help?

Well, I'm not sure but I would think the MySQL database on TE would be around 500megs..maybe slightly more or less.

And all the images etc, would be around 1GB extra probably.

I like to have hosting which is faster for Indian community. Hence, I am looking for server which is located in India. I am open for any resonable budget package.

Some of the hosting provider in India are simply reseller and usually they have server in US which probably no use to me (I myself have large package in a US webhosting company with unlimited domains hosting)

BSNL VSNL are the usual options if you want your site to be faster for the Indian community. Try for a host which has collocated servers in VSNL. Net4India = stay away

Speeds will hardly matter much wherever you host your sites. If you host your sites in the US only your pings will be higher but that doesnt mean site will load slowly. Even TE is hosted in the US AFAIK.

It does matter my friend. Try traceroute or compare speed with BSNL website itself and you will see the difference. :D

ping yahoo.com time=460ms TTL=47

ping bsnl.co.in time=468ms TTL=46

You were saying ......

Lol owned. Dude, I'm running a hosting company myself and I think I would know about this. Not only are prices cheaper in the US, the bandwidth is much more and of higher quality.

Yes, location and ping does affect gameplay, but definitely not websites to that much of an extent.

having servers in US has many advantages. multi homed network...means your site will mostly not go down incase any ISP has a prob. they have good backup and better security. I wont trust BSNL or any other datacenter in India with keeping anything sensitive on my server.

It will be cheaper if you rent a server with softlayer than wasting money in India. for websites...US is the best option. Most indian ISPs dont even have good peering, so speed of ur site will depend on what ISP are ppl using.

Guys, I hear you. I am not saying that I disagree but I been hosting in US from years (almost from 1996) so I am well aware of US hosting.

However, this perticular launch, I like to host from Indian netwrok ONLY, and colocation - look forward to have your suggestion among indian providers.

Thanks
