I have been getting the BSOD (Stop 0×00000024) for quite some time and am unable to figure out why am I getting this error!!
System OS: Windows Xp
I tried starting the system in vista and it works like a charm, no issues.

Things I have done:

1) Tried to restore recent settings that worked - failed
2) removed Antivirus - failed
3) Boot into safe mode, and disabled unwanted processes and startup progs(Msconfig) - failed
4) removed Service Pack 3

Please suggest , since it is a software problem not a hardware one.

any suggestions?

1. CHKDSK /f/r in command prompt (Perform in Vista - run it for all the partitions)

- You can also run CHKDSK /p, but this switch will only work with XP and not Vista.

2. Try to recover/replace/repair ntfs.sys file with the help of the recovery console.

- To access the recovery console you will need a WinXP bootable DVD

- If you are not familiar with the recovery console, please click here

If the above steps do not work, i am afraid you will have reinstall Windows XP.

dude, did this error started coming up after u installed service pack 3??
If so then plz get the latest graphics driver...
It happened wid me after I installed service pack 3 to play GTA4 in my system...

no this is not the case, service pack 3 was installed was back...i think its something to do with DEP...

Will first try steps suggested by anish and let you know.

Issues with DEP are mostly application based not OS based. This is because the ntfs.sys file is damaged or there are some problems with the hard drives (e.g bad sectors)

If the chkdsk finishes...try this command - Fixboot . It would ask the target partition to be C: . Press Y for it and reboot the computer by typing Exit . Issue would be taken care of .
