Graphic Cards budget £100 graphics card.... ideas??!

Hi guys.... although i dont know too much about computers, i'll do my best to tell u what i have and hopefully u guys can give me some guidance on what graphics card i should get. i have a pentium 4 640 3.2Ghz processor (the 64-bit one), rs400-A motherboard which supports pci-e and agp-e, 512mb DDR ram....those are the main things. I don't yet have a graphics card so i'm just using the integrated graphics at the mo(this is definitely not good) so I'm thinking of buying a graphics card tomorrow. I want to spend around £100. i'm thinking of going for one of the radeon X series cards. obviously some are too expensive for me.... what would be a good one to buy?? any ideas??
 
I am not too aware abt Europe prices, but X1600XT and Geforce 6800Gs should be around that range. Geforce 6800Gs would be a good deal, X1600Xt would be cheaper hence good deal too.
 
stay way from non sm 3.0 cards

also,if you are really interested in AOE3,stay away from sm2.0++ cards coz there is huge diff b/w 2.0 and 3.0 in aoe3,also for aoe3 don't take 1600xt,6600gt shd be better (for aoe3)

upgrade ram to 1/2gb
 
Try to search for the 6800GS. If u get it within ur budget, go for it. If not, the X1600 should be a good choice. The X800 GT is also a good card for its price. But give preference to the 6800GS.
 
if 6600gt is for 100bucks , X800GT can be worth not more than 110-120bucks also,it lacks sm 3.0 ,huge diff in aoe3 and also,you will nedd to upgrade x800gt soon when games don't support sm 2.0

1600xt may be crap with aoe 3 ,not even playable at 1024*768

go through each benchie , you will find that 1600XT belongs to the same segment as the following:
6600gt
6800
X800GT
all these are low end cards,6600gt at times is significantly better,(aoe3,quake 4 etc,pls confirm ) and at times the vice versa
but overall there isn't much diff in performacne
1600XT 256mb is a low end card and not a mid range card

X800xl,6800gs/gt are mid range cards

your best deal would be 6800gs

maybe gt or ultra

Apart from the bloom effect I dont see any diff in quality, besides X1600Xt is faster then 6600 Gt and a lil expensive only. And no Sm 2.0 wont be abandoned so soon.
 
6600gt got 29 fps with sm 3.0 and X800gt got 31 with sm 2.0,isn't this huge diff
though you might not find much diff b/w roughly 29 ad 31 but sm3.0 and 2.0 make HUGE HUGE HUGE diff and BLOOM creates ONE HELL OF A DIFFERNCE.

Personally Speaking I yet find ATI's IQ better then Nvidia, the color reproduction especially. I am not the only one, even Chaos will agree with me I had seen his 6800U and though it was blazing fast. ATI has a better color reproduction.

Also why compare only AOE3 X800 GTO is quite faster in other games too.

Hehe it looks even worse when you see the X800XT on my desktop side by side to the 6800Ultra. Its like night and day!
