Guys,
I am rellocating near my work place and dont want to shift my existing PC connected to my LCD etc to the new place. I therefore need a new day to day rig with decent horse power... No fancy PSU's, Cabbies, Graphic cards this time. But something thats definitely decent and if possible midly oc'ble:

Budget 25-30k including LCD.

CPU Criteria:

AMD or Intel ? Considering AMD is cheap by a margin. I plan to use this rig to mainly play movies. In addition I will be installing VMWare for Cisco stuff. Thats CPU intensive.... I am currently running my C2D at 3 Ghz, but in this rig I will be ok with any machine that can give me performance of C2D at 2.4 Ghz. Which proccy thats lite on pocket fits this criteria.

Price Criteria: Below 5k

Mobo:
I will prefer a mobo with inbuilt graphic card. Something that has HDMI, composite and component out. If possible midly oc'ble.

Price on or below 5k.

RAM:
I am fine with 2GB 667 Mhz. So no worries on this one.

HDD:
I am ok with 250 GB for 2k

SATA DVD Writer:
Which and how much?

Cabbie and PSU:
I think I will go cheap on this, as I can always upgrade the cabbie and PSU on my next foreign trip. In addition the cabbies in India are way overpriced.

Graphic Card:
Will the onboard Video of mobo be enough to play movies without bleeding or pixelating? Will throwing in a 8600 GT help. I rather not, but awaiting your responses here.

Monitor:

Please recommend the most VFM 19-22 inch panel. I can go with Dell S-IPS as well, if in budget. Want this to be under 12k and maybe can stretch till 14k. I can also source this from Malaysia but defn want to know what are the options in our market.

Am I missing anything else??? Feel free to add.

For Intel rigs, budget mobos which have IGP onbaord would seldom lend u any OC flexibility; I'd suggest u to get an AMD rig; works great for movies; :D

The processor starting from the X2 4200+ does the job well and for each increment in .1GHz there's a different proccy priced at 200+ bucks; I'd suggest u to get an X2 4800+ for 3.5k; [for those flawless HD playbacks :D];

Get the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard; features galore; HDMI + DVI + Optical SPDIF out + eSATA and u name it!!! :D Priced at 5.3k IIRC;

Get the Samsung SH203D DVD Burner for 1.1k odd; performs pretty good like its successor SH203B;

And throwing an 8600GT would not do much of a justice though it'll yield a couple of more fps in games; And a better and wiser suggestion is to get an ATI HD 34xx series card and enable the Hybrid Crossfire utilizing the IGP and the external gfx; Pl note that U need Vista for this feature;

And U wont get an S-IPS panel for 12k; OMG that'd be a wish come true at least in the next couple of yrs; S-IPS panels cater to the exotic panel category and for movie watching the TN panel does a pretty decent job; :D

For 14k perhaps u maybe able to source the Dell 22 incher like the SP2208WFP from Malay; Its priced at 17k here; Its an extremely good LCD but glossy finish so beware of the reflections; :P

Here in India, u'll have to settle for a 20incher like the Dell 2009W or the 207WFP; :)

And the 2GB RAM @ 800MHz does a better job than at 667MHz; :P

Gannu,
Which cards support hybrid crossfire on the 780g? I am a bit confused about how it really works. Most of the reviews pair the 780g with a 3400 for the hybrid crossfire :huh:

how would a 780g + a 4800x2 generally fare as a gaming system?

Funky can you throw some gyan too pls! :)

assuming 30k

Mobo 780G Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 5.5k
Proccy AMD 5200+ 4.9k
RAM 2 gb 800mhz transcend 2k
PSU VIP FSP OEM 500 watts 1.5k
HDD 250 gb 2.3k
LCD 19 " Dell 9.5k
Cabinet generic or Zebby Bijli without PSU 1.4k
Keyboard and mouse 1.4k
Samsung 20x SATA SH-203B 1.2k

Total 29.7k :)

The Hybrid CF works only with a 34xx series graphics card or an HD2400PRO as said here: ATI Hybrid Graphics - How ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology Works

The Hybrid CF Tech is automatically enabled when u plug a 34xx series card into the slot; :D

When it comes to performance the Radeon HD 3450 isn't going to dominate any games, but it does score a respectable ~1650 points in 3DMark 2006 on the test system powered by a 2.2GHz AMD Phenom processor. If you enable Hybrid CrossFire the score in 3DMark 2006 jumps up to ~2660 points, which is a boost of over 60%. We didn't get a chance to see the ATI Radeon HD 3470 graphics card in action, but AMD said it should score over 3000 points when run in Hybrid CrossFire on 3DMark 2006.

From: Legit Reviews - AMD Introduces Hybrid CrossFire - Budget Gaming - AMD Readies ATI Hybrid CrossFire Technology

780G + X24800+ is a decent gaming system but of no match for any C2D for that matter;

Most games depend on the raw GPU power more than the CPU nowadays; this has been reiterated umpteen no of times; :P

thanks! :hap2: all clear now :)

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H doesnt have S-Video out? Does it. If not, than how do I connect to TV? Please consider that I do not have a LCD at this new place.

Budget rig ... connect to TV.... :huh:

well all things can't go hand in hand can they :bleh:

u have to get a gfx card such as a HD3450 for around 3k to get a S -video out....
edit : didn't know u could convert a VGA to s video ...my bad :ashamed:

Nope but it does have all the other options including DVI, HDMI, D-Sub;

Moreover connecting this to a TV??? :S

U can only watch movies and playing games to some extent; Documenting and stuff's almost impossible using a TV!!

The max res would be probably 1024x768!!!

I'm afraid if any recent motherboards have a Video out although DVD-Component [Y-Pr-Pb] out was present during the AMD K9 times;
