didn't know where to post this so did it here :)
i want to build a system for my sister for mostly working on net, documents and some basic programming.it has to be a budget pc for around 20-25k and also low on power consumption.
so i am looking at an amd rig with 80gb of harddrive,1gb of ram and a 17'' LCD.
since games aren't a priority mobo needs an onboard gfx and i hope a 300w psu would do.

i would really appreciate some advice over the proc+mobo(<5k+whatever) as well as info about the current prices on these harwares.

i believe amd processors generally have lesser TDPs than intel's,if its different please correct me.(in the given price range) ;)

80GB HDD 1800

Jetway 690G + AMD 4000+ aprox 5k

1GB ram 950 bux

zebby bijli 1.1k

17 lcd 8k approx

he is from lucknow... :)
and he wont get a 2nd hander as well

17 inchy lcd (samsung syncmaster 740N) 8k
1gb ram 1000 approx
2.1 spealers wud be my guess (creative sbs 2.1) 1.2k
ups 1.8k
psu and cabinet elcheapo variety 1.2k
hdd 2k
dvd-rw 1.4k
logitech kb/mouse pack(plz dont break this 1 too) - 600-700
that leaves 7.5-8k for the mobo and proc.
so get any amd 690g based mobo (jetways is the cheapest) and a proc. like a 5000+maybe in the budget

GAYMER DONT BE JEALOUS THAT IT WILL TURN OUT TO BE BETTER THAN YOURS :P :P :P

my rig is for my sister with some casual gaming ( she plays some RTS and some mystery games which require some shaders)

its a sempron LE 1100 : 1.6k

Gigabyte Ga-M61-SME-S2 2.5k

1GB Transcend RAM : 1.4k

hard disk: seagate 160 GB : 2.3k (its worth it :) )

DVD Writer : 1.5k

cabinet+ psu: 1.5k

19" Viewsonic WS : 9k

kbd + mouse .7k

all this fits in 20k , and will run ubuntu, with all teh eye candy smoothly

heck, i'm using it to type this right now :)

all i can think of..

AMD Athlon X2 4400 - 3k

MSI/Biostar 690G chipset based mobo - 3.5k

1gb Kingston 667mhz ddr2 ram - 1.7k

LG H55N DVD Writer - 1.3k

Seagate 160gb sata2 HD - 2.2k

Creative 2.1 speakers - 1k

Logitech keyboard & opt. mouse - .7k

A good cabinet with a 400w psu - 1.5k

= 14.9 k !

+ Samsung 740N 17" lcd - 8.5k

Total : 23.4 k !! As good as it gets..

* Not sure bout current prices..

dude say watever u want about me...but gamer is gayyyyy :bleh:
gaymer ghar pe net lagwaa de ...... then i can irritate u all day :D

Get a 160GB SATA2 hdd atleast- 80GB is almost EOL and just a couple of hundred bucks difference between the two. :)
Jetway 692GDG (AM2 mobo with AMD 690G chipset) + AMD AM2 X2 4000+(Brisbane core).
1GB Transcend DDR667 (Can add a gig later, 2x512 is a waste of money in todays time.)
Zebronics Bijli cabby(comes with some 400W psu and should be enough for this rig i think)
Try for a 19" widescreen LCD- makes movie viewing way better than the standard size 17" LCD.

There are models that will cost u very lil above the 17" LCD. (But avoid 17" widescreen LCD.)
Keyboard+mouse as per choice- combos start at Rs. 400/- iirc.

Optical drive as per choice. (Avoid DVD combo drives- DVD writers are fairly cheap these days.)
A 600/650W UPS from APC/Powercom if need be- for safe shutdowns in case of power failure at the least. :ashamed:
This is what i call a wholesome rig. :ashamed:

thnx for all the info guys and apart from the 'gay' comments most of them were useful.
gotta get this stuff from lucknow so i guess it will cost some more.;)
will surely look for the 19'' lcd and what the heck, will get a sempron if it costs more :ohyeah:

thnx for the help,appreciated.:hap2:
