Hi

This is the build I will be building. Mostly for general computing, some TeamViewer remote troubleshooting, VoIP - and PvZ :D (no OC-ing, I hope - so going with 2400)

CPU: Intel 2nd Gen i5 2400

MoBo: ASUS P8Z68-V LE (chose this coz of USB 3.0 headers and good number of expansion slots. Also used ASUS before)

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 8 GB (4GB 2 x) (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL)

GPU: ASUS GTX550Ti deleted [ASUS GTS 450 1GB] deleted

HDD: Seagate 7200 / Samsung F3 (1 TB x 2)

Case: Corsair Carbide 400R front USB3.0 prts reqd. deleted [CM Storm Enforcer] deleted

ODD:
From existing system

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

SUGGESTIONS from Members:

PSU: Will 500 W be enough ?
Seasonic Bronze 500W

Keyboard/Mouse combo: Need a wireless KBM combo - MS / Logitech. Soft keyboard keys.

I had the Logitech Desktop Wave Pro, but the mouse seems a tad too big for me and the keyboard keys seem harder to press now.

Monitor: Suggest a 20"-21" LED/LCD monitor. Would prefer 16:10 AR

Wireless Modem/Router: ADSL2+ modem/router with support for b/g/n wireless and VoIP. USB port for 3G dongle desirable Firewall/Qos blah blah

Miscellaneous:

Will be changing the plastic case feet which come with case. Will be putting rubber feet on.

Some bling. Cathode tubes ?

Go for it !

budget? It would be better if you would edit your post and use the the template which is there in PC Buying Section...

^^ As you will not over-clock --

Intel Core i5 2400, in case you want to keep over-clocking open for the future follow Vivek Sire's CPU + motherboard combo.

ASUS P8H67-M PRO -- ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P8H67-M PRO, as you said negative on over-clocking.

Instead of getting the Cooler Master Storm Enforcer, go for the NZXT Tempest EVO OR Corsair Carbide 400R ~ 6200/-, http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NZXT/Tempest_EVO/6.html / http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/Carbide_400R/6.html.

For SMPS get the Seasonic S12D 520W ~ 3500/-

For the graphics card better you go for the AMD HD 6870 OR nVidia GTX 560 if you are an nVidia loyalist, both cards will set you back by ~11500/-, but both are more powerful than GTS 450 and have a bridge-head for future deployment. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-560-amp-edition-gtx-560-directcu-ii-top,2944.html / http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/reviews/video_cards/amd-radeon-hd-6870-hd-6850-review/.

The GTX 560 TI retailing for ~ 13500/-, gives you around ~10% jump in performance.

Rest let other members pitch in Sire, hope my contribution helped, cheers!!

Change the i5 2400 to a i5 2500K, difference is ~ 1500 bucks. Better IGP, plus overclockign if you ever need it.

Yeah, I'm not OC-ing, but would rather save the money and spend it on a better MoBo - the features which I need. eg. USB 3.0, expansion slots etc.

yeah, good idea. I just thought of this after I posted...Will add budget to Suggestions part.

I tried using the Build Your Rig flash thingy, but didnt work for me ... As for the text, I think its pretty close to the template ! :P

@Alpha17

Carbide 400R costs Rs.5000

@OP
This rig would be overkill for the purpose you are building it... Any good dual core processor can handle the teamviewer task... Plus i would advice you to buy Carbide 400R too coz its better than enforcer and i think costs less too...

So there's two recommendations for 400R.... I think there is a thread here too ... will look into it. Thanks guys !

Actually, its not about overclocking, rather the IGP will be quite enough for the stuff you want to do. Its as good as an entry level card from AMD or nVIDIA. Have a friend who has an i7 2600K with H67, using the IGP, he will be upgrading to a Z68+Quadro next year.

Also the Corsair 400R is a good choice, and costs ~5K here in Mumbai.

Yeah stick to i5 2400 for your needs... Mobo,Ram,HDD(Pinpoint F3) is fine as you have mentioned... Seasonic 520 bronze is what you should go for at 3.5K... Corsair carbide 400R at 5K is the best you can get.

And why get a GTS450 now?? Get something from the current generation of cards.. Starting from Ati 6670,6790 or GTS 550ti..

It probably is overkill, BUT, the computer I am replacing it with is a Pentium 4, circa 2000 or something. Now that I can afford, I would like to get the most current system, and forget about upgrading for 5-7 years.

The system will be mostly used by my parents. Hence I am going for quality components, less chance of failure :) (fingers crossed)

In which case, go with a Pentium Dual core or max i3, buddy. Its as good as it gets, does most of the stuff which you need. Plus put in a card like a 5670/6670. And you have a decent machine, which can run all the productivity apps reuqired, plus you can play PvZ comfartably!

Won't ever need overclocking. So, would rather save a few bucks.

I did say No to OC, but my requirement is also USB3.0 headers... H67 mobos from ASUS do not have internal headers. So the front USB3.0 ports on case would be useless. (I dont wanna run cables outside the box, running to the back panel USB3.0 ports. FUGLY) Z68 mobos have 2 internal headers and 2 back panel USB 3.0 ports.

OK ... lots of recommendations about the GPU. I am not looking for the best one out there, or even the entry-level models.

I based my decision on this comparion over at tomshardware.com. Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart : Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2011.

If you see in the hierarchy, the Intel HD2000 or even HD3000 are way down below. Its a big jump from HD3000 to the GTS 450, which is only 7[SUP]th[/SUP] from top.

GTS 450 can be had for about half the price of a GTX 560. The GTX 560Ti costs even more... For more than double the price, is a 10% jump in performance justified ?

Suggest a current generation nVidia card for around Rs 5000-6000...Hows the 550Ti ? Any good brands to consider ?

If you want a GPU in the class of the GTS 450, get the AMD HD 6790. Tops.

The nVidia version of budget cards either can't game OR can game and consume a lot of more power thanks to their dinosaur like architecture principle.

The GTX 560 Ti performs miles better than the GTS 450 AND GTX 550 Ti. Also it over-clocks much better too.

If you want to lower your budget and get quality components, then cut down the price of cabinet.. Get a NZXT gamma and add some nice CM LED fans...

Stick with i5 2400, Gskill rams, Samsung F3 HDD, Seasonic 520w.. Get a Asus/Gigabyte H67 mobo with all solid caps....

6670 1gb is enough for you as its latest DX11 card. No other Nvidia card presently in the range of GTS450... You can spend 7.8K and get a sapphire 6790 or Asus GTX550ti direct cu(quality product)

OK ... The core components have been sorted out.

I have edited the OP to reflect the changed components.

Does anybody here have any suggestions on KBM, Wifi Modem/router, Monitor...

I was thinking of posting the requirements in the individual sub-forums... Networking, Peripherals etc ...

What do you guys suggest ?

Where to buy ?

I am in Punjab and where do you suggest .. ? Lynx is pretty cheap but Amarbir seems to have fallen out of these forums. I read the Dealer thread yesterday.
What other options do I have. I would prefer something close by where I can go and pick up the items, so in case of warranty issues we dont have to keep posting/receiving items.

Well, 1st, we make recommendations on what apps you decide to use, mate. If you need a GPU go with a current gen one, the 450 is not recommended. Also recommended the HD3000 only, (not the HD2000) based on what i saw@ my friends place. It was good enough for 720p light gaming.

Also you are referring to the older May page. You should be looking at the September page for now. Best Graphics Cards For The Money: September 2011 : Best Graphics Cards For The Money, September Update. Also, the list is for gamers only. The list on the end is also for gamers mainly to decide on the performance of differant cards, so that if they wish to upgrade, what will be the changes. For everyday tasks, the IGP is quite enough.

Finally, when it comes to buying a system, we tend to over splurge on the CPU/GPU, thinking that it is required and all. Total BS. My friend who took the 2600K did not need more power than a 2500K. But he needed a CUDA card also actually. But went with the 2600K, could not buy a GPU, neither a good cabby as he went overboard with the budget. Eventually, for you, if this is going to be used mostly by your parents, IMO there is no point in going overboard with a i5. They will not use more than 50% of the power of the CPU.

Final words, its your call. We can only give suggestions.

Also AFAIK, avoid anything below the nVidia 560, as i have heard AMD offers better performance per watt below that, and is also VFM.
