I need some wireless internet broadband service. I took a look at BSNL EVDO Data Card which costs Rs 1.5k. I went to bsnl.in and got to know that EVDO Cards provide surfing speeds upto 2.4 Mbps. I saw in the website, under CDMA Postpaid services : Rs 750 Unlimited. I don't hv any other ISP here.

Is it worth going for ? Speeds are stable ? and how is the latency ? I don't expect good latency though, after all its wireless.

Need Suggestions !!

Even i am thinking of going for EVDO if my Wi5 connection starts giving trouble again .....the local exchange people say i wont get any speed in my area as the tower is far off.The landline too zigzags all the way to my bros house so not recommended they say .Told them to give me a demo they saying they dont have sim ....if i can get the sim from somewhere else they can give me a demo .Time to hunt for one :(.

Well, I stay in college's hostel, and BSNL tower is far from here too. Not many people use it here, so there won't be much traffic here. Will help me in the go :)

Does anybody have idea, how much extra service tax is applied with 750 UL ? How much speed do we generally get with 750 UL plan ? How is the ping for servers located near Hyderabad, if pinged from Orissa, or near Rourkela ?

Hoping for early reply, as I am going to get my hands on this thing soon :P

Service tax is as standard like 12.2% and speed depends on signal strength.

I suggest you put antenna for it.it will improve your speed significantly

Just a doubt: Aint the card's max capacity 2.4mbps? Or is it something else(a newer version probably) that u have?? coz i am mentioning the USB modem (ZTE modem which looks like the Reliance Netconnect and similar).

EDIT:My billing is a constant 717 INR a month...i think its 650 + tax.

3.1 is max theoretical speeds in EVDO Rev A , EVDO rev 0 is the older standard of 2.4 mbps

another new EVDO technology has been deployed SVDO which ZTE has deployed in certail circles

BSNL is Rev A

as explained by kuduku, it is rev A.. i get speeds in excess of 320KBps on https.. :)

so, BSNL provides rev-A data cards too ? I inquired about rev-A data cards at local BSNL office, they had no idea, they said that I can get 2.4 max. Are rev-A data cards limited to certain locations ?
