buying 32 inch lcd from dubai?

hi,

can anyone tell me whether any duty applies on getting a 32 inch lcd tv from dubai,

also can u suggest one for me.the purposes will be to use as monitor,playing ps2 games and watching tatasky on it.

the viewing distance for all 3 will be 9-10 feet.can u use it as a monitor at 10 feet?

Yes duty will surely be charged. I got a 32 inch LCD from DUbai in Aug 2007. Went officially through the Red Channel and was charged a duty of Rs 1800 (customs' bill was given). This was at Delhi airport.

1 month later, a friend brought in a similar 32 inch LCD from Dubai and landed at Mumbai airport. She paid Rs 2k in bribe and got out in 2 minutes.

So net-net, one way or the other, be prepared to shell out 2-3k.
