Hello guys,

So after reading a lot of reviews and and researching on the web, I've narrowed down my list.

Here it is (I know I went one over 10!):

1. HP Pavilion dv4t
2. ASUS U36S
3. Dell Inspiron 15R
4. Dell Inspiron 14z
5. Dell XPS 15z
6. Dell XPS 14z
7. HP Pavilion dv6
8. Lenovo ThinkPad X220
9. HP Pavilion dm1z
10. HP Pavilion dv6t
11. Lenovo ThinkPad T420

I want it for; web browsing, college stuff, photo/video editing, watching videos (hd), some data crunching, playing games (least important though), portability (traveling with it, carrying it) and all.

What do you people think? I'm in the USA for college, so that's where I will be buying. Maximum budget is like $1600 or so.

Your budget is way too much for some of the options you've listed. With that budget, I would look at Samsung Series 9 or some other slim bleeding edge ultraportable. I was myself looking at black friday deals (but I'm in India, trying to get a lappy here via a friend), and I like the Dell 14z. I hate anything over 14".. but 15.6 is sadly the most common.

Again, at your budget, I'd look at stuff like Macbook Air, or if its a PC, a Samsung Series 9 13" one.

How is $1600 too low a budget? Every laptop I mentioned can be got in that price and so much more.

he said its way too much for the listed options, never mentioned its low :)
I would get the Macbook Air.. or the Asus Zen book..

crazysah, do you want a larger (15" ish) screen with Full HD resolution or you can do with just HD resolution and 13 inch screen ?

The reason I ask is you don't exactly need to sacrifice portability for a larger screen - Dell XPS 15z and Sony Vaio SE.

Yes. I'd rather prefer a 15" laptop but if a 13" one is much better, I'll take it. Are the 15z and SE good laptops?

^

Yes. The SE comes with a 15.5 inch Full HD IPS screen which is amongst the best in the business. (Notebookcheck display score 94%) i7 dual core and AMD 6630M 1 GB and upto 10 hours battery life with the sheet battery. The standard unit weighs just 1.96kg.

The SE seems good but I can't really find it on their website. Can you link it to me on their USA website?

Also, how about the new Envy 15 that released today?
