Buying a PS3! India or Abroad?

Hi!

So I've finally decided to buy a PS3! One of the main reasons to buy it over the XBOX was the BD player! Now, the one BIG advantage of buying it abroad is the price of course! I can get it arranged from HKG within 3 days (no shipping, no duty)! The prices there are much cheaper! My friend is in the jet cabin crew and flies tomorrow to HKG!

PlayStation®3
[HK$2,399(160GB) / HK$2,549 (320GB)]

If I buy the above, I can get the move starter pack much cheaper:
PlayStation®Move STARTER Pack x 1 = HK$399 (original SRP: HK$499)

The total for the 320gb console+move pack is HK$ 2948 = Rs. 16800.

In comparison, the Indian MRP for the 320gb + move bundle is 23500 and can be bought for 22500 shipped!

Now, in terms of price, it's a no-brainer. But what about warranty, power supply, dvd and bd regions, and lastly, online features.

Some help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks!

I think I would have a problem with movies.

Indian Regions: DVD 5, BD C.

Hong Kong Regions: DVD 3, BD A.

So, I would only be able to play region free discs available in India, OR, source them from abroad! The bluray region for HKG is the same as US, so that shouldn't be THAT much of a prob!

Moreover, is it worth compromising on the warranty?

If it suffered from older hardware flaws, then yes, compromising on the warranty would be a huge deal. But Slim's have rarely reported succumbing to the hardware issues of it's older sibling. I would still suggest getting an Indian PS3 as you can even avail the extended 3 year Croma warranty on it. It's a risk getting a console with no warranty, make sure it's a calculated risk though.

Get it from India - god forbid if something happens to the PS3 within an years of usage, you're screwed. Unless, ofc you happen to frequent HK to claim the warranty.

I think ill buy it from India. my friend flies to hong kong often, but, i'd rather not give him the trouble!

thanks everyone!

Btw, have any of the delhiites checked out FoG (federation of gaming) in DLF Place, Saket?

Chroma extended warranty does not help since its not being approved by Sony , Sony has already warned Chroma for extended warranty

If they provide the warranty for a certain fee, then it's their job to honour it. Sony isn't bearing the cost for replacement out here, Croma (or whoever their insurance tie up) is.

Can you give more details? I picked up a 250GB GOW edition from Croma with extended warranty. What does this mean?

Chroma though have given the warranty they wont be able to fix it , if it dies since Sony isn't going to do it.So Chroma does this through some other sources.

I thought they were giving us a replacement and not doing free repairs. Has anyone had a previous instance wherein they have sued this extended warranty offered by Croma?

Even Sony doesn't fix/repairs the consoles, they directly give out replacement. We don't contact Sony once it's out of warranty. All our dealings would be with Croma for the extended part. How they do it is up to them. I think someone on IVG just got his console replaced with a Slim 120GB under the extended warranty.

get it from croma ...its extended warranty rocks ....as people have said its croma's duty to give warranty in case the ps3 is older tan an year

Visit the Croma website and check the extended warranty part. It's not just for the PS3, but a large range of electronic products. You can even visit your nearest Croma store to inquire about the same.

I also took my PS3 250GB slim from Croma with extended warranty. When i asked the salesman about the extended warranty he said they have tie up with Bajaj Alliance for this. If there is any problem in the extended warranty period they will try to repair it locally and the expenses will be taken from insurance. If the repair doesn't work then they will offer us a new console which is available at that time.

Croma's warranty rocks :)
