I will be buying an OTG within the next couple of weeks. Now, this is something which I have very little info about. My wife likes to cook. She has been putting off her baking skills in dormant mode only 'coz we don't have an OTG (Microwaves are pretty much useless for the same).

She will be baking cakes & cookies. We do not eat non-veg, so the OTG will be put for no other use. So, what should I look for while shopping for the same?

1. What capacity would I need?

2. What is a rottisserie? Do I need one?

3. Do I need to look for any specific functions, given that baking is my main purpose?

4. Which brand and model do you recommend?

Not sure how much I should spend on this one, but let us say that the upper limit should not exceed beyond 5k INR. Also, do they take up too much electricity?

Please elaborate.

Hi

I just bought a Bajaj OTG Majestic 3300, its 33 litres and is absolutely perfect for my need.

Rottisserie i used to cook non veg items, it is mostly used to rotate the chicken when cooking, hence if it is motorized it is better.

I recommend bajaj, cos it is cheaper than morphy richards (Morphy richards servicing also handled by bajaj)

I'm leaning towards the Bajaj only as of now. Checked a few online stores, and a Bajaj 20ltr OTG comes to around 4.5k.

Am really not sure about my q.no.3 in the first post. Is there anything specific that I should be looking for in the functions list?

nothing much since you are purely a vegetarian, I would suggest go for 30 liters plus, since in 20 litre you will no be able to bake bigger cakes, which you might regret later on.

Will check at home the size of my OTG.

Bajaj / kenstar / Phillips are the brands to go for.

Functions to look for, dont go for large size than you need, as the most receipes have time and temperature based on wither small OTG or big Ovens so you have to readjust the timings and temperature a bit to your own liking.

If you like to eat barbecue in veg / paneer rotisserie is the thing to get, but it takes a lot of time to cook for more persons.

22 / 26 ltrs will suffice for your family. will be within sub 3k range, physical stores are better than online stores in this gadget.

Doc, Morphy Richards also retails OTGs. Might be worth a look - http://www.morphyrichardsindia.com/c-12-otgs.aspx

Been using a small electric kettle of theirs and a pop-up toaster. Very good build quality and has lasted me for over 3 years now. No complaints despite the bad treatment me and Murthy has been giving it.

#medpal: Thanks for the reply. I have decided not to leave the rotisserie out of the equation when zeroing in. I don;t think I'll be using it much. Regarding the brand, it will be a Bajaj or a Morphy Richards. I have excellent experiences with both of them, in terms of kitchen appliances..

#Gannu: Yeah, Morphy Richards is definitely on my list. We've been using a Morphy Richards mixer grinder for the past 4 years, and have had absolutely zero problems. Build is excellent, like you have mentioned.
