Buying budget PC without Monitor, keyboard & mouse

Hi

My friend is looking to buy a new desktop PC within a budget of Rs.10000/-. He already has a 17" CRT monitor (but he will upgrade it to LCD in a year), 2.1 channel speakers, microsoft keyboard & mouse.

He needs:

Processor (either Intel or AMD)
MOBO (with onboard graphic card as it is cheaper)
DDR-3 Rams
500 GB HDD
DVD writer
Cabinet with SMPS

He will be using the system for watching movies, listening music, little bit of gaming & for office work. But he will be trying his hands on overclocking the PC just for learning OC.

Processor ~ AMD AthlonII X2 245 ~ 2.6k
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-74GMT-S2 ~ 2.4k/Asus M4A78LT-M LE~2.7k
RAM - Kingston DDR3 1333MHz ~ 1.35k
500 GB HDD ~ Seagate 500GB 7200.12 ~ 1.85k
DVD writer ~ Samsung/ Sony/ LG OEM ~ 0.95k
Cabinet with SMPS ~ Zebronics cabinet with PSU ~ 1.25k

Total: 10.4k/10.7k (Dont try to OC with the generic PSU. If he wants to try OC get a decent entry level PSU like the FSP SAGAII 350w ~ 1.5k or FSP SAGAII 400w ~ 1.9k or the Gigabyte Superb 460 (400w)~ 2k)

Buy the rig DarkAngel suggested...

If ur budget permits then buy atleast FSP SagaII 350w... PSU is a very crucial part of a rig ;)...

THanks friends for the replies. I am getting a Bijli cabinet from one of my friends with its default SMPS for Rs.500/- will it serve my purpose with the above configration and secondly, This will result in saving nearly Rs.1000 from the above as i am getting a old cabinet. Should i put this money in getting a better smps and what if i add in Rs.2000/- more to it, will i be getting something better in the above configration.

waiting for your replies.

Regards

Buy atleast an FSP Saga II 350w or a Gigabyte 460w(400w)...

If u can spend 2k more, u can buy Athlon II x4 635

u can buy a better PSU for future upgrades like VX450

u can also buy a better Motherboard : Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H (Sata 6GBPS + USB3) for 4.8K

So its totally on u... U want a better mobo, a better psu or a better proccy?

My Suggestion:

Processor : AMD AthlonII X2 245 ~ 2.6k

MOBO : Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H(Sata 3 + USB3) ~ 4.8K

RAM : Kingston DDR3 1333MHz ~ 1.35k

500 GB HDD : Seagate 500GB 7200.12 ~ 1.7k

DVD writer : Samsung/ Sony/ LG OEM ~ 0.95k

Cabinet : CM Elite 310 ~ 1.5K

PSU: Gigabyte 460W(400w) ~ 1.9K

Total: 14,800:

worth the extra cash and it wud b a bit futureproof too as the mobo has SATA 6 GBps + USB3

If u want strictly within ur budget

Processor : AMD AthlonII X2 245/Athlon II x4 635 ~ 2.6k/4.5k

MOBO : Asus M4A78LT-M LE ~ 2.7k

RAM : Kingston DDR3 1333MHz ~ 1.35k

500 GB HDD : Seagate 500GB 7200.12 ~ 1.7k

DVD writer : Samsung/ Sony/ LG OEM ~ 0.95k

Cabinet : CM Elite 310 ~ 1.5K

PSU: Gigabyte 460W(400w) ~ 1.9K

Total: 12700/14600

What is the difference between these 2 mobos suggested above in terms of onboard capabilities and Will i be able to play crysis using this mobo? And will it not be better to buy Asus M4A78LT-M along with a cheap Graphic card within a budget of Rs.3000/- and combining both would hv much better graphic performance when compared to Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H.

What you say?

Secondly, what is the price of saga 400w and why is it important to have a better smps. We will be Overclocking only for knowledge and till date even i am using the default SMPS which came with my cabinet and it has till date not given any troubles. I hv overclocked my E5200 from 2.5 ghz to 3.1 ghz on stock and it has not been more than a year and i hv got no problems either from my smps etc.

Thirdly, you have suggested X4 henom II which is 2.9GHz, 2M, AM3 whereas AMD II X2 - 555 BE has 3.2 GHz, 7MB, AM3 so isn't it a better performance processor to be recommended here?

Lastly, the amd X250 is equallent to what processor in intel and isn't it better to get a intel pc as it has more resale values.

I forgot to tell that my friend has 32" LG HD LCD TV which he will be using for seeing the movies etc sometimes.

the PSU is viatal, as a failure can result into damage in almost all the pc components.,..... there have been cases where the pci-e power connectors were soldered onto the graphics card...
ecn i got a CM 600w psu sometime back, i was planing to add 6870 HD and probably overclock my procy,
a little research made me firm about buyin a GOOD PSU, the above members like dark angel etc are very knowledgeable and advicing you for ur safety,

better safe than sorry, don't think of saving money on PSU ever, the above mentioned PSU's would do the job and are worth every penny !

You wont b able to play crysis with any IGP... even if u r thinking that if u will compromise on mobo to save some money to buy an entry level gpu by which u wud b able to play crysis then u r definately wrong my friend... Even a mainstream card like GTX460 struggles to handle that game... And the mobo that u r talking about supports a 95w cpu only... So u wont b able to upgrade the CPU in the future...

We suggested u a decent PSU coz the life of almost all the parts depend on the PSU... Like PSU, CPU, Mobo, GPU... If u will use a cheap PSU then u may end up frying them...

Who told you that u will get a good resale value for an intel rig... The resale value depends on the warranty and the condition of the rig... And it doesnt matter if its an intel rig or an amd rig u will get the rite resale value only...

Buddy we cud have suggested u an even better processor than that but the problem is that u r low on budget...

I hope i have answered all ur queries... :)

What r the games which i will be able to play on this MOBO along with a budget graphic card within Rs.3000/- and what is the minimum that I would require to run crysis or Prince or persia?

Secondly, the link for coisair ram 2GB in Rs.1300 is:

http://www.techenclave.com/dealers-paradise/corsair-smps-rams-best-prices-158277.html

And if we don't do OCing, do we still need a good SMPS and the default SMPS won't do? ( I will be going for the Saga SMPS but this question is just for knowledge).

Its better to spend on a good PSU rather than cheap out on that and risk damaging components. The probability of issues cropping out of generic PSU is more compared to good ones.

You wud b able to play games like Burnout Paradise, fifa 11, NFS etc at 1024x768 resolution at low settings... to play GPU intensive games like Crysis or AvP u require atleast HD5750 or HD5770... these GPUs can handle these games at 1440x900 resolution with all settings cranked up... by using these cards u can also play these games at 1680x1050 resolution at medium settings... but to play these games u also require a good processors... :(

You told that my friend will not be able to play crysis even if we buy a entry level graphic card and only with a good graphic card we will be able to play crysis, but as he will be using his old CRT 17" monitor so will he not be able to play it on the crt monitor. Pls tell the minimum settings required for running crysis.

Secondly, pls tell me about the following :

1. If we overclock the processor for some days and then make the bios settings as they were before, will this also void the warranty?

2. How are old SMPS and should they be bought (I mean like cooler master 500w extreme etc) and if yes, from wherein Delhi can we find it (reliable)?

3. After assembing are there any settings that are to be changed in Bios before installing Windows 7?

4. Which mobo out of Asus M4A78LT-M LE ~ 2.7k, Biostar A780L3 ~ 2.8k and Gigabyte MA74GMT-S2 ~ 2.7k is better and which has better onboard graphics?

5. Which is the cheapest mobo with HDMI card for AMD processor with good onboard graphic card?

6. If we decide to add a card later within a budget of 5K, which one is good? and

7. How is Zotac GeForce 210 Synergy graphics card for Rs.2400/- or XFX Radeon HD 4650 for Rs.3850/-?
Link: http://www.chip.in/section/buying_guides/Value-Performers.html

8. Why r coisor Ram better than kingston rams?

1. It wont void warranty unless the proccy is burnt and there is physical damage.

2. CM Extreme power series has poor quality. Also u have to consider capacitor aging. So i would suggest Gigabyte Superb 460 ~2k or FSP SAGAII 500w ~ 2.2k

3. You have to set DVD Drive as the first boot device in case u are installing from that

4. Asus M4A78LT-M LE ~ 2.7k, Biostar A780L3 ~ 2.8k have the same HD3000 IGP and i would suggest Asus as its cheaper and has slightly better quality

5. Not sure. Have to search arnd a bit.

6. For now the HIS IceQ 512Mb GDDR5 ~ 5K is an excellent card ot u can get an year old HD5750 2nd hand for 5k. GPU prices fluctuate rapidly so put up a query when u buy

7. The HD4670 512MB/1GB version sells for 3.8k from MSI, Asus etc... and it eats the GT210, HD4650 for breakfast, lunch and dinner :p

8. Corsair has 10 yrs warranty against Kingston 3 yrs warranty. So the 50Rs. is justified as u will get slightly higher resale value. If the price difference is high stick to Kingston :p

9. The three new proccies are flagship ones in their respective line up which makes the performance to price ratio higher than the rest of the lineup.
For eg., the 1090T BE costs 11k now and the 1100T BE costs 14k-14.5k. So a 100MHz speed bump and 3k price hike :p Unless you are OCer who wants to push the proccy to its limits its better to get the cheaper ones.
