Hi guys,

I am buying a Canon HF100 Handy cam for my self....and wanted to know more about it.....and also if there is a better alternative to it...in the same price range......:D

Cheers

I am averse as of now to tape based Handy Cams....and would prefer a HDD based storage or a SD based storage media.....

I think the hf100 is a good flash based cam for the price :)

EDIT: tape vs flash vs hdd is another discussion altogether ;)

Here is a detailed review of HF100. Personally i would go for flash based camcorder for the following reasons:

->With tape based cams, the longer the tape the longer it takes to transfer to your computer. Also with tape based cams, if you transfer the video using firewire, a single tape would occupy around 13GB of HDD space (for 3mp camcorder).

->AVCHD compression method has improved a lot (acc to comcorderinfo), so little loss of quality.

Of course, for now, it is easier to edit tape based videos as compared to flash based ones. However if you have a powerful pc, editing avchd based video shouldn't be a problem.

That's all i can share based on my experience, not necessarily facts. Hope it helps you in your decision.

Thanks a lot plSoft for that info...but i am still waiting for a few more people to respond and then will decide on what i should opt for....
