Looking to buy a 2TB internal drive for storing my movie & TV show collection. Have narrowed the choice down to two:

1. Hitachi 2TB (7K3000 ?? 7K2000??) @ Rs 7350 with a 3 year warranty

2. Seagate 2TB (7200.14) @ Rs 6875 with 1 year warranty

Plz suggest which is better.

Go for the Hitachi 7K3000 drive, be warned though that Hitachi has been bought over by Western Digital so replacement of the drive will be with a drive provided by the latter.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 3TB Review (HDS723030ALA640) | StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews / Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 2 TB / http://www.silentpcreview.com/hitachi-7k3000-2tb/.

Leaderboards.

I think official Western Digital warranty has been slashed to 2 years in the wake of SSD's rising popularity and the losses the company faced after the Thailand floods [2011].

Western Digital buys Hitachi hard drive unit - FT.com / Western Digital Acquires Hitachi Hard Drive Unit - Arik Hesseldahl - Enterprise - AllThingsD.

General perception is that Hitachi drives are acoustically and performance wise better than their Seagate and Western Digital counterparts; some argue this is because lesser people have bought Hitachi drives so they contribute to a smaller pool of RMA and associated wrangling.

@ALPHA17: Thanks for all the input, especially the link for 'Leaderboards'. I have asked CyberStar (Distributor) to get me a Hitachi HDD. Expected on Friday.:)
