Unless you know what exactly she wants, you should avoid it. You can get very good imitation jewellery/ american diamonds locally too and women enjoy shopping/ trying out multiple options. Buying online takes out all the fun.

It is similar to tech items, you don't buy a pendrive without checking at least some reviews or feedback from friends.

If you are looking at actual diamonds/ gold etc then it is fine as you can be assured of the quality/purity as long as you buy from a trusted site. There would not be much of a difference between the online and local price.

Well I know that women enjoy the shopping etc. This is just a small little surprise from me.
Now I obviously dont want to go hunting for jewelry. I would like to take a chance and order something decent:)

Jewelry in the US is not based on weight of gold/value of gemstones. (And a lot of the gold used is 18k or lower.) In India, a $50 item would get you at least $45 when you trade it in. In the US, $30 would be a huge return.

Of course, if you buy pure gold (not crafted in any way), it turns out to be cheaper than in India and fewer chances of getting scammed if you but from a reasonably reputable source.
