Buying land - question

Well I came across a piece of land that I am interested in. The point is, its quite away from the city and almost near the huge farms of some crop or something. Any ideas, who do I contact in order to enquire about the land. The land does look un-owned, or alteast no maintained.

You need to check records at Municipal Corporation or the Gram Panchayat.

If it is preowned you need to get contacts details.
If it is reserved forget it.

Be careful to check past 50 years record of land.

Is it for residential / farm / others? Check the status of land if you are buying residential plot in the outer areas. Lot of people just mark plots in agricultural land and sell off as Gram tana land (land part of village). But it will have complications (not in all cases) in future. I am not trying to demotivate you. But researching well is the key. I have seen people having issues with such plots.
